Default Scratch/hole in my brand new tint

Hey yall,

I was just wondering. I just got my tint done a few weeks ago at the area's best shop. They did a great job and i had no complaints except for some minor scratching on the rear window that they said they would look at. But the other day I went out to my car and noticed a hole about the size of the round end of a pen next to a scratch on the driver side tint which had been immaculate the day before . I could not figure out what caused this as I dont even touch my windows let alone scratch them. But yesterday i pulled apart the rubber stripping on the door and saw two bronze colored pieces sticking out of the door that sort of look like keys or something. One of them happens to be EXACTLY where the damage is. Has anyone ever seen something like this or know what these are and how it could have caused this? I am bring the car to them on Saturday to see what they say. Let me know what yall think.

Thanks,
Jason

Yea bro, the same thing happened to me. There are two pieces on the door's frame that has a felt, cloth-like, material to them. This is to guide the window down and up so that it doesn't wobble or vibrate. The felt tip broke off and is just a bare piece of metal, that when closed, rubs against the window. I first noticed it when the tint was first put on. There was a bubble at the top of the window and I told them to get the bubble out. They said that it was a scratch in the glass and sure enough a couple of days later the tint was scratched up. As a quick fix, I extended the still good piece outward and tightened it and removed the broken one. That way it doesn't wobble. I was supposed to find a replacement part but it is working fine so I've forgotten about it.

Unfortunatley, the tint will need to be replaced. Check the other door to see if it is starting to show some wear.

Good Luck!

Same thing happened to me!

02TransAm/Batmobile is exactly right!

This may sound like a long shot, but pull the door panel off and check the bottom of the door. A lot of the times the piece falls off and is sitting right in the bottom of the door.

Damnit, yea I looked when I got home from work and the felt piece is MIA on the driver's side door but still in place on the passenger. Im hoping the tint place will replace the tint for free but who knows Is this something I could should get replaced at the dealer? Cuz tint is a must and this hole is not gonna fly. Suggestions?

Thanks,
Jason

Would you say this is something I should just do myself? I have never taken the door panels off and I have heard some say that its not that hard and others say its a PITA. Also would it be smart to go ahead and replace the passenger side as well?

Thanks for the part #!

Sounds good...where would I find the process for taking the door panel off and how much time should I set aside for this?

It's 4 maybe 5 screws you remove and three or four plugs you undo for the locks, windows, bulb in the door handle bezel and speaker and that is pretty much it.

Alright so it sounds fairly simple haha...I had just remembered someone saying somewhere that it was a pain to do it but sounds like I shouldnt have a problem. Thanks everyone.

You are psyching yourself up like you are going to change camshafts! It's no problem at all! The only thing that is a pain in the *** is trying to get it back on. Don't fret, it's just hard at first. Then I realized that there were 4 hooks on each corner of the door panel that, . . . . "hooks" onto the frame. Just hold it up, push it against the door and slide it down. Also, the other PITA is getting the screw back in under the armrest. Could I get an Amen on that one??
