Plain and simple as to why I switched to air springs is because I like the looks and handling of a lowered Trans Am, but the downside is scraping on driveways and stuff. Switching to air springs not only let's me lift the car when I need to, but also let's me park it fully lowered. I didn't lose any performance in the handling department that I can tell.
Before I did it, I was sceptical. I originally came up with an idea using a short hydraulic ram to raise and lower the upper shock mount so I could keep my coilovers, but I couldn't find a ram with enough travel and still fit under the hood. That plus the added complexity is what convinced me to go with air springs.

Because Camaros and Firebirds are timeless muscle cars that people will still appreciate the looks of 50 years from now just like we think of the 69 Camaro. You can talk about the performance benefits of it but is that why yor are doing this? No. Just go ahead an throw neon lights and a beer can muffler on it. $100 says if 5 years you look back and say what the hell did I do.
i recommend reading before posting, or making your own thread regarding neons, and your disdain for non-stock suspension setups.
BACK TO THE THREAD:
id still swap my fully aftermarket suspension (stock style) for a good air-spring setup any day. the only disadvantage i can think of is weight.

You can't start the thread off with the first post by saying" I know a lot of you don't like this car" and then get upset when some one doesn't like it. And maybe Jason did it for performance, but the original car in this thread is not doing it for performance. If he were he wouln't have ground effects and other performance hindering things on it. By the way I do like the look of a lowered car, just not slammed on the ground. If that's what he wants to do it's his money.

No, I sure don't. The Hydraulics "fad" has been around much longer than 15 years and it's still going strong today. And why do you say fad like it's a bad thing? Fads come from people wanting to be cool and if if don't want to be cool, go buy an efficient econobox and leave these forums so us cool people can talk. Different strokes for different folks. Don't be a hater.
There's nothing new about air springs. The OEMs have used them for decades and they are used on almost all 18 wheelers with high success. They are even used in environmental and performace applications to lower the ride height above certain speeds for less drag resulting in better mpg, higher top speeds and increased stability.

I've seen this thread around for a while but just now getting around to posting. Still have to read through it so bare with me if I'm asking questions you've already answered. First off cool ride, not exactly my style since I'm a drag racer but It's still "BADASS!!!" What color are you gonna paint it or is it staying pewter? Is your bag setup completely custom or is it off the shelf stuff? I read on the first page that it's getting an ls1. What other drivetrain mods are you doing, trans, suspension, rearend? All in all this is a very creative project and I hope it turns out well, good luck with the build!!!

haha, alright well i retract that statement then, and replace it with: compressor size!
hatch is full of audio junk. where else would you guys mount one? (im actually thinking for my 65 mustang.. how big would a compressor need to be on a 4 wheel setup like yours/his?)

I don't care about his reasoning behind doing all this work.
All I care about is seeing what he's doing, so stop insulting the guy. It's fun to see his updates.

but when someone makes a ignorant remark about something they dont know about thats what i dont like
o and ya if i take the ground effects off the car will have so much more performance

All I was saying is your not doing it for performance. No the ground effects aren't making a huge difference, but if your after performance you'll do almost anything for .1 seconds. Add up the ground effects those heavy 22's that don't have enough sidewall to dig and your hurting performance quite a bit.
I don't mean to insult you, I know your putting in a lot of hard work and money. You said it yourself some people aren't gonna like it. As long as you like it my opinion doesn't matter.

No every thing isn't about performance, but don't worry I'm sure those ugly *** euro headlights will give you a few extra horsepower.

Having an opinion different than yours doesn't make it ignorant. I've been around the show seen for about 15 years now and have traveled to some of them with people on this forum.

my new tig welder
trying 2 get the hang of the tig welder
its alot harder than i thought it would be
used the tig welder 2 make a lil bracket 2 hold the brain 4 the radio under the 1/4 panel
i put plugs on the valves and senders 4 the gauge so that i can just unplug and take them out if there is ever a problem with them i dont have 2 cut wires and rewire them
