From what I saw first hand in person by another LS1tech member you could try with all your might till your old and gray and that one wouldnt never fit right. All the fitament in the world couldnt fix it and the body shop spent a long time trying to get it to fit right and still it wasnt what it should be. I believe the OP is pertaining to there is so much wrong with the hood that it will never be within any kind of reasonable acceptance.

Here are pics of the hood I saw in person and it will show the parts that wont ever be right no matter how much fitament is done.

This part by the headlight door curves up instead of slightly down and the part at the nose/middle isnt made so that the body lines line up. Also the indentation above the nostrils that should go all the way around disappears as you can see in the first photo.

I'm uploading the pics right now. Just so happens i have another 99 nbm ta to compare to.

The VFN receptionist i spoke to on the phone was VERY nice and helpful when i bought the hood and i enjoyed every conversation with her, so i don't have anything bad to say about communication.

I did have the bodyshop etch a line onto the vent to make it match and sand off the RAM AIR. Yeah i know the price for thier hood vs OEM is a big plus and i took that into consideration when ordering. Yes i knew it would take some work to smooth out the bugs. Yes i knew it wouldn't be perfect, i wouldn't have expected an OEM to not require some tweaking either. And Yes i deliberated over which hood, which company, before i purchased it. I looked at tons of pics on here to make an the best educated decision i could without seeing one in person.

I guess what im saying is it's not what i expected. Plain and simple.
I guess what i forgot is everything is relative. Some guys think Maaco turns out a nice product, some think a good paint job should can't be had for less than $5000.

I'll be at the LSX shootout in Memphis this weekend and would be more than happy to show it to anyone who is interested.

My point is this; i read SO much about these hoods and expected more. I guess my hopes were to high.

For what it's worth im usually a laid back guy and will let a lot slide, but these cars are the first real luxury/toy/hobby i've afforded myself after a lot of hard work.

Yep, just looking at those pics, I would have been on the phone right after the test fit raising hell. It never would have went past that point.

Forgot to mention that the body shop placed a car battery onto the fwd outer corners of the hood and baked it to get it to where you see now. It was a lot worse.

You can shim the hood by the hinges to raise it slightly and adjust the front bumpstops to help with the height. The headlight assembly is adjustable and the headlight covers can be adjusted independent of the assembly itself. Using these will help the with fitment and alignment. It takes time and patience to get it right.

BTW- Lower the car.

man im not going to lie, when you started this thread i was thinking something drastic, that truly isnt too bad at all, especially aftermarket. I've seen A LOT of aftermarket hoods, hell mine is either GM or SLP and it still doesn't fit perfect. You have to take aftermarket hoods with a grain of salt, that truly isnt that bad i would be satisfied

Thanks, I will try adjusting the headlights tommorrow, my bodyshop said they did as much as they could to close the gap but i'll double check. The front bumpstops were removed before i took these pics. When you say shims for the hinges could you elaborate? I thought the only adjustment for the hinges was loosening the hood attach bolts and sliding them up the oblong holes. Are you talking about shims under where the hinge attaches to the car itself? Now that i think about it i could make something at work that might help. But did you see how the passenger rear corner itself dips down?

BTW thanks to everyone for the help. I posted this thread to A. vent and B. help the next guy out.

I know you're right to an extent but i did expect a little more with all the "word of mouth" on this forum. I didn't expect perfect, especially for the price, but i did expect a little more. That rear passenger corner sagging down and the line not on one of the "nostrils" just killed me, especially for all the hype around VFN.
