my .02: ram air. air is compressed on the leading edges of the bumper and forced around the car. as speed increases the air pressure on the leading edges of the bumper increase. the increased velocity of the car increases the airflow forcing it in to the air intake creating the ram air affect. the faster you go the more air gets put in to the motor. if i remember right and i can't find my references but at the Salt Flats a test was done with and with out a ram air set up. i believe the stats showed a 5hp increase at what ever speed the test was conducted to. marketing? hell yes marketing! one of them history channel things on either the GTO or Firebird showed the first generation cars that offered ram air showed in wind tunnels that no air was actually forced in to the engine. the boxy front ends forced the air higher then where the inlets on the hood were located......
