Only 1000 hp? Mine has much more but that's probably because it's sealed!

To play devils advocate...why would low pressure enable the carb to take in more air? It would seem high pressure would infact force more air in? Think of it like this...a car at see level makes more HP than one in the mountains because the air pressure is higher.

i hope these replies are all sarcastic.

the honest answer to the OP is, Pontiac has a copyright on the term "Ram Air", hence the name given to the engines of the 60s and 70s. they have used that name on several cars/engines including the 00-05 Grand am GT (the 99 was a "HO" lol).

the term is just a marketing strategy.

Oh really! Then how come Ford has factory "Ram Air" decals on their Mustangs in the 70's?

It is a marketing gimmick as you stated, however it does offer some performance gain in the form of cooler, denser outside air being inducted to the intake.

I think the OP got his answer 6 months ago when he started the thread before Twitchtwice decided to bring it back up.

I believe the 67 bird was the first to talk about Ram Air. And it was not as much about" the hood "as it had to do with the design of the heads.......

And the heads were no gimmick.................

Absolutely correct. The WS6 hood can easily be sealed to the airbox and baffles removed with a nice short straight path for the fresh cool air to enter the intake. As a matter of fact when reading the IAT sensor in the airbox and comparing it to the outside temperature of the rearview mirror probe in the front brake cooling duct, the temperatures read the same as long as your moving. This means that the engine is always getting the coolest, densest, air possible which doesn't get better than that on a normally aspirated engine!

i dont know the date or the details of the copywrite, but i know its there. theyve used the term on several models over the years, where the Chevy or oldsmobile counterpart didnt get it.
