Default BIG problem.. possibly a ls1tech first!

Funny thing happened this weekend.. It rained with the window cracked and the water seeped in wetting my carpet. No big deal right? Well I go to start vacuuming up the water to dry it out and noticed my carpet was slippery like oil. prior to this I had to replace my transmission due to a nuclear warhead or something going off in it.
I cant get the mysterious lube out the carpet so I start pulling up the carpet to see what happened. One of my drain plugs fell out of the body and the transmission fluid from the blown tranny somehow found it's way into my car through the hole soaking my carpet and the backing. I pulled the seats out and then the carpet and scrubbed the floor to get all the trans fluid out.
Now I'm left with this lubed up carpet in my garage. Is there any way to clean this out of my carpet or is it ruined? Its not stained just greasy feeling.

May sound stupid, but at work alot of times I use engine degreaser and or brake cleaner and then use a shampoo machine on top of that. Does wonders just dont let it set and soak too long. use a scrub brush and repeat if needed. Just my 2 cents

You could probably get the majority of it out by using a degreaser...that being said, I don't think it's worth the effort, nor do I think you will ever really get it all out. I'd just get new carpet if you can afford it...

My thoughts exactly. Carpet isn't too expensive. You might even be able to get some from somebody on here parting out a car.

well I steam and shampoo carpets by the handful every week....its not a big deal unless your carpet was already worn out if its decent simply degrease it ...very light on the degreaser not much, steam it and hang it to dry stick a fan under it itll be dry in a day or 2 thats if you suck the water out after steaming it...i dont understand why ppl are anti cleaning a carpet ...its basically laziness because it takes less then a hour to do ...while your at it do your seats door jams engine and you got a brand new car.

while I was at it I removed the entire interior except for the dash and scrubbed it down. I'm re-working my stereo as well. I'll give it a shot.. If it dosent come out ok I'll just get a new carpet I guess.

I suggested replacing the carpet because it was soaked with transmission fluid, not because I'm lazy. I have no problem scrubbing and/or steaming vehicle carpet...I've done it many times. However, we are talking about removing transmission fluid, not a food stain or dirt. You can barely get the stuff off of concrete, let alone getting it completely out of vehicle carpet and backing.

hire a carpet cleaner like me. lol. (parents own bussiness) get it steamed most that other stuff is bad for the carpet. and the rentals leave behind alot of soap and if you ever get them professionally steamed the cleaners will hate you cause thell have to do it twice(once with just wanter then with soap and water)
