Default Headlight door mod for LT1 T/As

Am I the only one who hates the way the headlight doors stick out a mile high like air brakes?? I am trying to figure out how to limit the travel on the headlight doors on my LT1 TA so that the headlights come only halfway up, something like the sleep eyes mod the import guys do. Don't worry, I am not going to retain stock headlamps in there - they will be replaced with smaller dual round projectors, maybe HIDs. Does anyone know how to do this?

Oh you're defiantly not the only one lol. I hated the way my old 96' Firebird's lights stood out so much... don't really have to worry about that with my 00' Trans Am, but I defiantly know how you feel lol.

Well, I would think you could just increase the stop area on the lift arm. I believe the lower half of the lift arm just rotates around when the headlight goes up. If you increase the material at the stop point, it should reduce the amount of rotation that can be achieved and put the acuator into resistance so it will stop turning. Sleepy eyes, maybe ?

I don't know for sure, just thinking about it from the last time I looked at my headlight assembly.

hey drivefast4fun, this is 88irocz28 from cz28.com. You replied to my thread over there too. Just wondering, adding the extra stop won't cause the motor to strip the teeth on the gear will it? I don't know if the headlight motor is programmed by the headlight module to run a fixed number of revolutions or if it feels the resistance from the stop and stops automatically.

the headlight module senses the increased current draw to stop the motor.

I know, 5 years ago when I started this project all the HID stuff was super expensive, so I went with what was sorta cheap. I am looking into using some assemblies off of a C6 vette right now, as I can get all the components for for sorta cheap from a buddy with a shop as long as the car is pretty messed up in the front. He is looking right now. I am going to change this whole set up, so stay tuned, maybe someone can get me a hook up on some other style of HID or the bi-xenon lights that are more readily available and I can make up a couple of kits.

Oh, and Jeep Junkie, sorry I have not gotten on here and gotten you those pictures like I said I would, our basement flooded due to the water heater rusting out and with moving all the stuff out into the garage, the cleaning, and the fact that the computer is/was in the basement, I have not had much time. After I get the car un-buried I will get you some better pictures.

Fog lights have to do with the pattern not necessarily the size or shape of the light. You can have lights that size that are made with driving beams but yeh a bigger lamp would help out.
