Default Ripping tint...

Just had my car tinted in november, less than 6 months ago. There are 2 tiny rips on the driver side window. Like circularish .25" tears. Is this from the tint job or is something causing it when my window is rolling up/down?

I just don't want to get the window re-done and find out there is something in the door or whatever causing it

Usually window problems will cause vertical tears.
Circular tears sounds like maybe there was a bubble, even if it wasn't visable it could have had liquid trapped in it.

Mine did the same exact thing.....there's something in the door causing it, it's just that i haven't got around to figuring out what it is.

yep.... there is something in my door that rattles when the window is down when i close the door. I think that whatever it is rattling, tore my tint when hitting the window.

I had the same problem. There is metal tabs in the door to hold the window up i think. When they are worn out or missing the window will slide up against something a rip the tint. I did this to my car and the problem is gone.

I have had this problem on a few 3rd Gens...but none of my 4th Gens. BUT it sounds to me to be the exact same issue. If you take the door panel off there should be a few metal tabs just below where the top of the door panel sits that guide window up and down and keep it in place. These guides should have felt on them but over time this felt wheres off causing them to rub the window just as you described. Replace the felt on them and you should be fine.

Yep I had the same problem and now need to get my tint redone because of it.

As you can see what causes the problem

Dealership had each one listed for $20 which I thought was high but the guy sold me all 4 for $40 so I guess that wasnt so bad.

What happens if you just take them off? Does it make the window rattle?

Yep, I had two little holes in my window caused by these metal plates, last week I replaced the window and fixed the problem, I'll show you what I did and post pics this weekend.

Yeah. It'll rattle , if not bang, a lot. That's why the ends are covered with felt, since it actually makes contact with the window.

What about replacing the metal pieces with hard rubber or even plastic? The metal just looks like a disaster waiting to happen...like CO99Z28Vert.

Thats because the metal has a felt pad attached to it. His are broken off in that pic resulting in damage from the jagged edges.

I say be careful how you shut your doors on a daily basis. If you shut your door from grasping the window, you can put uneven pressure on these brackets, leading to misalignment, and odd wear etc. Always close your door from the actual door. (sounds stupid, but its true)

It happened to my ride as well. One broke off so I took the remaining piece off but the window rattles too much so I'm just gonna go buy it and put it back on. The two pieces are guides to hold the window in place as it goes back up.
