Need help, GM refuses to pay for my bubbling roof!
Hey guys, just got a message from the GM rep last night. Supposedly
the regional director decided they didn't want to fix my bubbling
roof! See here for the original post on this.
Anyway, he said that they didn't want to do this because the car is out of
the original 3 year warranty, even though I bought the damn extended
warranty! Makes me wonder why I wasted my money on the damn thing. It's
GM's fault, and now they don't want to fix their mistake.
Anybody have any advice on how I can fight this situation, or am I SOL?
I'm certainly not paying 2k to fix GM's problem!

Is it standard for them to refuse you, they lose money when they pay out.
Find out what Chevrolet claims to cover in regards to paint/rust etc and then find out if your extended service plan covers this (if it isn't already one of those 10 year/100000 mile warranties).
Go STRAIGHT to a lawyer, if GM sees that you are serious they will help you fix your car but they think they can lose you if they keep giving you the run around. If Chevy covers it and says they wont fix it, it's quite simple to have that resolved, think about it.

I would get this escalated to the next level, especially considering there is a TSB that was released about this problem back in May.
I beleive the TSB dictates replacement of the panel. SOrry, don't have any more info than this:
-- TSB INFO --
03-08-98-001; Bubbles in Paint Around Perimeter of Roof (Replace Roof); 1999-2002 Chevrolet Camaro, Pontiac Firebird

Yes, I have a full copy of the TSB, but this guy won't
even call me back as of yet. I may just start over and
come at it from a different direction.

The Zone Manager still hasn't contacted me on my case either. I think GM's paint protection warranty is 6 yrs, 100,000 miles but don't quote me on that, it covers rust and corrosion. I think the paint bubbling due to a chemical eating through the paint from underneath should qualify as corrosion. If I don't hear back from GM by Friday I'm going to my local news station and see if they are interested in how GM screws over loyal customers.
Pendragon, don't give up. Just stand firm and don't take any **** from GM.
Good luck!

Oh believe me, I haven't even begun to fight. Now
that I think of it, he told me he wouldn't cover
it since it was out of the 3 year standard warranty.
Hell, the TSB wasn't even released until Feb, 2003,
AFTER the car was out of the 3 year warranty. Are
they expecting everyone with a 99 to replace it
themselves?
The ammended TSB was released on 4/2/2003, which
again, outside the warranty. (This only corrected
a part number, fyi.)
I have copies of both TSB's, so I'm just waiting for
this guy to call me back. He supposedly out today.

Richie, I know of 2 99 SS's going in for the bubling roof. The dealer is covering it. Try to contact Palm Bay Chevy, they helped me out while under warranty with mods. They fixed any problem I had. They hooked new headlights for me! I heard GM is aware that the epoxy holding the roof on is de-gassing and causing the bubbles.
