Wheel waxing
I did a search and found a thread about waxing chrome wheels, I have a set of ZR1 black with the polished lip. I was needing to know what kinda wax is best to use on that type of application. Wheel are not more than a year old. I normally use Zymbol wax on the car, would that be safe to use on the wheels. The main reason that I am asking is due to the fact on the rims building up heat will the wax bubble and distort due to the heat? Does some company make wax for doing painted rims? i Want to contact the company that sold to to see what they suggest.

the brand doesnt matter. the wax has NEVER bubbled or anything on my black ZR1s, and i just went to a road course on them. all the wax does is create a protective barrier between the rim and brake dust, making it easier to clean, plus giving a nice shine too. just use whatever is available and cheapest. i had an old bottle of green turtle wax laying around that i use. leaves a good heavy coat of wax. you certainly dont need anything fancy like pure carnuba or a polish.

I use Meguiar's Cleaner Wax (paste) on my wheels. I treat them pretty much like any other painted surface on the car. They get washed, dried, and claybarred (when necessary). Once that's done, I go over the hoops with Mother's Billet Aluminum Polish, but you don't want to do this, since your wheels are painted and clearcoated. Once the hoops look good, I go over the wheels with the cleaner wax, then wipe it off.
I often see people neglect their wheels, then complain that they just can't seem to get them clean. If you clean them well once, then keep a good coat of wax on them, they'll be much easier to maintain.

I personally use a sealant on my wheels rather than wax as it lasts longer. But, paint is paint, whether it's on your wheels or hood. For polished finishes, they need protected just the same.

Thanks guy for all the comments about doing this, since Pensacola has some crappy weather today I guess that is agood project to start on when I get home.
I always wash and dry the rims, would it hurt to wax the inner part as well?

regular carnauba wax works great been using it for years on chrome wheels or black. Even if you polish chrome or alu wheels put wax on after that and it has to wear off the wax b4 it can get to the polish

Wheels don't really get hot enough to melt wax. I wouldn't wax my brake calipers though.
I've used a few sealants and waxes on my wheels, they all worked fine. Poorboy's makes a wax especially made for wheels, and I beleive DP does as well. Most chrome polishes, like Mother's, are waxes in themselves.

NuFinish works quite well on wheels. Apply a coat each day for 2-3 consecutive days to get the maximum protection/longevity. It's super easy to apply and remove as well, not to mention cheap.
