Default Dot Matrix! Mod

I painted over the dot matrix on the rear hatch in preparation for tint soon. It was kind of a pain in the *** but I don't want bubbles in the tint and I didn't want to use black vinyl which I hear fades.

I used the flat black 1200 degree high temp paint and it turned out to be just about an exact match to the rest of the paint on the hatch glass.

How does painting it help with eliminating the bubbles?

Tint tends to bubble up where they tint over the dot matrix, this is an alternative to tinting that portion of the window

Thumbs up

Looks like a perfect match!

What did you use/do to prep the glass for paint?

I just used window cleaner to make sure it was spotless.

Also another hint I forgot to mention, make sure you let the paint dry fully and be very careful when pulling the painters tape off.

ok, makes sense as an alternative to tinting, i was scratching my head trying to figure out how that helped them put the tint on it.

Neither of mine ever bubbled either, but I have seen several that couldn't get tint to stay smooth over the dot matrix at all, even after several attempts. It's hit or miss, but The OP won't ever have that worry, lol.

Love that white leather interior. How hard is that to keep clean?

I wish the tint shop would have warned me about the dot matrix before they tinted mine... came out with bubbles and I had to argue with them about how it looked bad.

I have had tint on my hatch since I bought the car in 2000 without any bubbles in this area. Not sayings its possible. Maybe I had a shop that knew what they were doing.
