LT1 console in a 98 Z
at this point, I know. Why, you ask? Well, I've been trying to figure out how to completely remove the part of the console under the climate contols so that its just carpet under there. I think the open look under the dash would look cool, and it would give you room to hang three gauges. Unfortunately the LS1 console is made as one piece and doesnt really allow for any easy removal of the cubby hole/second cup holder, etc. But the LT1 version does, or at least would be much easier to modify to create that open space and tastefully blend the "end" of the console with carpet. so you need to use your imagination a little harder than I had planned. But I think that three gauges would fit nicely in that void, and give it a retro feel. Trending Topics

Is that just a flat piece of plastic put down over the console with trimming behind it? A howto would elevate you to a god-like status, similar to the vent-pod mod.
Remove center console...
Remove cubby and cigg. lighter/accessory outlet...
Push a thick piece of paper onto the surface you want to cover with the ABS...
Trace the shape by pushing a marker into all the corners and outlining the flat area...
When done you should have a nice paper template to cut out...
Trace it onto a piece of cardboard, cut it out, test fit it...
Make adjustments to cardboard template, if there are none then cut the shape out of a piece of ABS textured plastic (1/8" thick maybe)....
Plastic weld/epoxy piece onto console....
Cut out two gauge holes with a 2 1/16" hole saw (can get for under $10 at hardware store, attaches to drill) make sure you go through your ABS plastic and the factory plastic beneath it....
Tape off everything except the plastic you added, spray with a grey color that matches your 1998 grey interior, let dry, reinstall and you are done
