This is basically what it will look like folks. The valve covers are unfinished, and the TNT kit isn't there, but this is everything. Notice the lack of clutter and especially wires!

Looks great so far, is there any reason why you would do so much work and not make the inner fenders shiny? I think that would really set the project off.

He is going for a classic musclecar look. Old school musclecars (like my '69) had semi-gloss black panels under the hood, not gloss black. I think his idea is unique and it looks great.

Now, thats a PIMPIN' dash cover Don't go too retro there bud. lol

Nope...Reckless coil pack relocation...check o ut my "retro" post from Aug 31st for details.

Tony is right. The whole retro in "Project Retro" is to go for the older muscle car look. That is, uncluttered, little to no extravagances, and semi flat black paint. I thought about throwing some clear on there to gloss it up a bit, but it would just show any flaws I left behind worse than the semi-flat paint shows them

Thanks for the kind words! Looking for some trophies down the road with this combo. Seen many guys take an older car and make it modern, but how many have taken a modern and make it look old school? Something different. Damn near reckless you might say

I actually created the set from two differnet MSD sets. I wanted red for obvious reasons. I used a universal (cut-to-length) 8mm set with straight plug boots. I got an LT1 set to snag the coil boots from, but you could just as easily use stock boots for the coil boots. Just a little trial and error, cutting, and splicing. And always make sure you use an ohm meter to check for resistance/continuity before running the wires. If you don't make the connections just right, there can be a loss of continuity in the wire and poor performance.

Wow! Are you building a race car or a show car!?

Thats looking sweet. I wish I had painted my short block before I put it in my car a few months back. Oh well I will have to have it done when I tear down my block for a freshen-up this winter break.

Can't wait to see you car completed.

how about putting the coils on the sides of the shock towers and running 4 short wires across to the plugs instead of stringing the longs ones accross your engine bay? Thats the only thing ruining your clutter free look IMO.
Otherwise it's obvious you have put alot of effort into this. Kudos.

My impression looking at this car, besides the fact that it is one of the coolest things that I have ever seen, is that it is all 100% old muscle car. Take a look inside the engine bay of a clean 69 Camaro. Clean look with long wires. I think that the long wires actually are the perfect touch to give it the retro look.

IMO, your coil location is the best part.

Is there a way to fill the holes on the valve covers?

They would look great filled, then sanded down, then match painted.
