First transmission that was in the car blew the 3rd/4th clutch pack and was useless, so I bought a rebuilt one and had it installed, Worked just great until friday night.
I pulled into a gas station and grabbed some 93, pulled out and it went from 1st gear directly to 3rd and then wouldn't go into 4th at all. In 3rd I was doing 55mph and it was shaking violently like the damned thing was going to fall out. If you shut the car off and leave it parked for about 5 minutes, the first time you drive it, it will shift into 2nd and then into 3rd and then it will leave it in 3rd gear and not downshift at all. Unless you manually shift it back to first it will force you to leave a dead stop in 3rd. Anyone have a clue? I've got a warranty on the Transmission.. The car is a 1996 Trans Am.

man sorry to hear that!! honestly, i would give our sponsors a call for sure. either FLT, ACE, performabuilt. i know u have a warranty, but honestly i would go ahead and spend the money on getting the tranny rebuilt the right way by guys that know these trannies. i would hate to see u use your warranty, and the same thing happens over and over again. just give our sponsors a shout.

When you shut the car off it reset's everything in the Tranny and it will shift right until it hits the problem again. Sounds like it's in a default/limp mode, that's what they do when it's in that. More than likely something came loose inside. I would send it back.
My last Transmisson lost 3 & 4 when the Snap Ring came loose, and all I had was 1 & 2. I managed to drive it till the Band heated up and I had no 2nd no more. I was about 5 miles from the Shop, so when it would stop pulling, I would shut it down fo a few seconds to reset, then start it back up and it would move again for a little bit. I did that till I got back to the Shop, then parked it.
Now you know why it says T56 coming in my sig..

Going to get it scanned tomorrow and see what it's throwing.
I've been wanting to sell it actually, but I didn't want to until I knew everything was in 100% Working order. I don't wanna pass any problems onto the new owner. It pays to be honest though.

If you have a loose converter the solenoid may not be bad..it may be the computer program sensing the slip and putting you in "limp" mode..happenned to me ( I replaced the solenoids twice before figuring it out)..get the trans codes deleted.
