Default stall converter?????????

let me getthis strait, becausei am driving my first automatic car, for the drag race purpose of it. if i get a a 3600 stall converter, my converter will stay locked up until 3600rpm at that time it begans to slip? I am so lost on this evaditly very important aspect of the A4. HELP

You have it backwards, it will slip until 3600 and then start to grab. This gets you into a higher powerband more quickly, at a lower wheel speed.

so how does it effect the dailt drivability of a car? my brother had a 5.0 mustang with a stall and i remember he had problems with it shifting gears at low idel driving

Unless you get a huge stall, 3500 or less shouldn't hurt streetability at all. The shifts will soften some because of the looseness of the TC, that's where shift kits or computer tuning comes in to put the snap back in your shifts. The stock TC's are a joke with their ridiculously low stall speed! I had a vig in my 94 corvette with a transgo shift kit and loved it. I will be getting a 3500 or 3800 stall in late spring for my 99Z. I was all set to get it with other mods this July but medical bills popped up and I was suddenly 2000.00 lighter in the pocket.

Your stock converter is a lock up. (Someone help me with why you don't want a lock up, because I don't know why you wouldn't in a street car.) You will feel it lock up at around 48 MPH. (if you are driving like your grandma is in the car with you) The lock up converter with also help you get past a gas station or two also...

so are u saying that anything above a 4000 stall speed is a PIA to drive on the street? or is it not that bad with gears and a shift kit?

I have a non-lockup 3000rpm 1.8 STR converter. Now that I have driven it around for awhile, I prefer the non-lockup for its smoothness in daily driving. The gas mileage has not dropped that much (considering a H/C upgrade was done at the same time). The converter is slightly lighter without the lockup plate and ive always found the busyness of the stock converter and the lockup function somewhat annoying - always seems to lockup on light accelaration when you dont want it to.
