Default Transgo 4l80e man. shift kit buyers

I pretty much have decided to build my 4l80e trans with the man. kit, computer is way to expensive, and most of my 400's were man. anyway so just one more gear to shift, fig i could save $700
i went on ebay, kits were listed bet $225-$245
i called Transgo with a couple questions to clear up what i needed, and its better to install it when i do my rebuild, some minor supplied int. parts
i told them the prices varied on ebay, and was told if i bought a kit off ebay, they would not provide any tech assistance, only if i bought thru a dist.,
that the ebay stuff was seconds, etc
i assume the ebay sellers have to buy from Transgo, esp if they say 12 kits avail.
i found a dist somewhere near me, he wanted $289, wouldnt deal any, said he had 1 in stock, but never ever remembered selling one, so it must be an older kit?
where have you guys bought your kits from, does this sound strange

TransGo doesn't know where you got the kit, they get paid either way... You just dial the tech number on their instruction sheet.
I've talked to Larry and Glenn at TransGo a few times. Pretty sharp guys.
They never ask where I got the kit...

Most vendors are not going to budge much on the kit because there isn't much markup at $290.

i bought my kit off ebay thru a transmission shop. Think it was $225 + shipping. Did the mods to the valvebody myself (although i did have my tranny builder look over my shoulder some). seems to have gone together ok but since the cars not running i can't say if it works or not

My cost on that kit is about what you get it from Summit for, and I'm wholesale through one of if not the largest trans supplier in the US. I'll have to check what I paid for the last one I got a couple of months ago but a year ago I was paying about $175 for that kit and now it is over $200 my cost, not including any delivery or shipping fees. It definitely went up.
The best part about the kit is that it includes the vacuum modulator setup. I do my own manual VB for the 4L80E's on full race setups, but on street cars I just use the Transgo kit because it includes the modulator.

Summit can help you with any shipping issues, etc, but I hope you don't plan on finding a transmission savvy guy to answer tech questions on the phone about installing the kit at Summit.

I dont know about a ebay kit.But i will tell you if you are good with automatic transmissions you can make your own shift kit.All it takes is a few special tools and a pocket knife.I pretty much made the one in my s10 and it shifts at 6200 into 2nd then i made it where it shifts 6300 into 3rd and then 7000 into 4th..it shifts hard now. you might want to look up making your own.

Why don't you enlighten us as to how you make a full manual valve body for a 4L80E in the garage with a few special tools and a pocket knife...?

lol, no, i wouldnt call Summit about an install question, just if there was a problem with parts in the kit-you know i would be emailing you when i get down to the tech part, lol
that ol switch/pitch does pretty good, just slinging that 13" converter is taking some power and not stalling like i hoped(should have gotten the 1400/4000) i had run 11.1 @126, then i tested a 400 with a custom built 10" converter, went 10.68 off the trailer, all the gain in the 1/8, same tuneup
i like to drive mine on the highway, kind of tire of hearing the flowmasters, so looking for the od-im figuring the smaller converter for the 4l80e will offset some of the weight diff-tuning a blowthru carb'ed LS engine proved to be a little diff than the old gen1's and b/b's-
now im looking for my pocket knife

That's easy

I've done it, and awaiting results to see how the release time is on launch.

So no test results yet? Be sure to post them ***** up, or PM me if you want to keep it G14 classified. The tbrake would be the final piece to the puzzle.

I want to put some miles (launches) on this thing to see what the clutches look like, so I know it is releasing clean without dragging the clutches.

You should learn how to spell and also read...
I've been around the block a time or two as a mechanic and transmisison builder and am pretty well aware of what it takes to alter shifts, design a transbrake, and other transmission related work.

Your answer was about what I expected, no tech info just more babbling.

Anybody can drill the feed holes out bigger and leave out some checkballs to firm up shifts, but then they are looking for help when their junk is broke.
