Default 4L60E Problem, Need Insight

Hi Guys, I'm looking at 94 Formula with the A4. It appears that 1st and 4th gear are not working. Anyone have any ideas? Am I looking at a total rebuild?

thanks,
Joe

1st and 4th would point to the 1-2 shift solenoid being bad since its used in both these gears, So may just a simple fix

It would be great if it were just a solenoid but the fluid is awfully brown. I only drove it around the block so it never got over 30. As far as limp mode, wouldn't the SES light be on?

Should be on in either case, But the only thing that 1st and 4th have in common is the 1-2 solenoid so that is definatley what I would try first

Performabuilt,

Thanks for your insight. What years of 4L60E will fit a 94? 93-97?
