After seemingly endless research, I've decided to go with a Yank TC. But I'm having trouble deciding on which model to go with. I was thinking Stealth Thruster 32000, Yank 3000, or the SLP 3300. I'll use it for mostly street driving with occassional track time. I still want decent gas mileage. I will use drag dadials at the track and 255R16's on the street.

even if this is a daily driver, i would still go with a 3500 stall from either of the companies. not too many people are fond of that cheap SLP unit. i know they dont make their own convertors. IMO go with a yank 3500 and i really like the SS series units. also you need to know what are your goals with this car? track? radial? slicks? etc

 

alot of people seem to like the Yank SS3800 even for everyday driving.

 

When I had 2.73's a Yank PYE3400 was perfect for me.

 

im in the process of purchasing a SY3500 and many people seem to be very fond of it for a bolton car. Just my .02

unless you are talking Vig 2800, no way is a 2800 even worth the time or money. since stock is around 1900 rpms.

 

trust me the key is low STR. 1.8 or 2.0 3500 is good but the low str will stop you from spinnin --2:73's when they spin they spin fast and long

I don not recommend the stealth thruster with your mods. The SS 3600 would be your best choice followed by the SLP 3300 or Yank 3000 (very similar performance).

 

Vig 3200. It stalls at 3600 and is very tight. Tighter than Yanks. Perfect for the street.

 

There is NO WAY I would want a low STR with 2.73 gears...especially with sticky tires. It would launch too soft and would feel looser on the street.

My vote for a 2.73 geared car is a Yank SS3600 or a TCI 3500.

 

well i went with strange 3:73's with my High str they broke in 4 passes -Oh and it took out my tranny as well --i never had any problems until i switched

 

I agree about no low STR w/2.73s, unless you just wanna go from a roll.
My ST3500 has been kick a$$ for 40K+ miles.

 

Grape Ape, the subject is about 2.73 gears which are alot stronger physically than your 3.73s (much larger pinion gear.) With 2.73s and a low STR you would have a dog. Not only would it launch like a sloth on valium, it would drive sloppy too.

An SS3600 would be perfect, IMO.

 

How would a PT4000 match up with that combo?

 

It would perform great but it would be loose as a goose. It wouldn't be very nice to drive everyday for most people.

Yes.
