I was thinking possible the convertor due to the noise. However it was just described to me I didn't get there in time to hear it. He said that there were no visible leaks.

The splines in the converter could be stripped, this would cause a no movement situation and a whine noise. But it is also not very common. Are you close to Houston, we would be happy to take a look at it for you. A little tow might be needed though.

If the Convertor goes out, it won't necessarily mean that it will leak.

Once the Pan is pulled, it will be easier to get an idea what the problem is.

I would certainly concur that pulling the pan may tell the story, But it sounds like a trans failure to me possibly a broken input drum or failed planet and or pump with no movement.
It could be the converter splines stripped but I have only seen this once on a GM car so kinda rare IMO.

As for the trans If it needs to be replaced I would get one from one of the sponsors here along with a converter .
We have some really good combo deals running right now also for you to look at .
