Default FTI TH400 and 4000 stall Review

Big thanks to Greg at FTI for putting up with my 20 million phones calls during the build. You can read my sig for the specifics, but for the A.D.D people it's in a 05 GTO, big cam, TH400, and 4000rpm stall.

This thing rocks. I've still got street tires on it, Kumho 712's 255/45r17, and 1st is useless until you are rolling pretty quick. Even then when you slam it you are thrown back and the shift to second breaks them loose for a bit. The speedo goes up so quick it's crazy. This setup is way better than my old six speed. I can't wait to get some better stubs and axles to launch it off of the transbrake.

With 26" tires and 3.46 gears 3050rpm is 65mph.

My idle is around 950-1000rpm and if you let your foot off of the gas it starts rolling forward. It doesn't take much throttle input at all to accelorate slowly. But when you hammer it, watch the F*ck out, cause it's on.

Congrats, it sounds great. Do you have the manual/automatic shift kit? I keep thinking I want to swap my 4l80 for a 400. I'm just worring about cruising. Of course I am running a 271/2 - 28" tall tire and would swap to a 3.00 gear.

I want to do a front mount turbo like you have. I was thinking of starting with a T76 though. Sounds like you have a bada$$ ride. If you already have the 4L80, why would you want the TH400? Is there that much of a rotational weight difference? I don't commute long distances, so the TH400 suits me just fine. 3050rpm at 65 isn't that bad.

What can I say, I must like working on my car. haha I really have to much money in the swap to change it I guess. I just keep wondering what it would be like. It would save alot of weight though.

This Sat. should be the last trip to the track before I install the tbrake and turn it up. We'll see what it'll do then.

Why do you want to get rid of the 4l80e and sacrifice the O.D. Let me know I will build you the best 4l80e.

FTI how much do you charge for a 4000 stall speed converter for a th400 on a head, cam, nitrous car? I'm thinking about swapping my 3000 out for a 4000 since my car doesn't see the road much.

I'm only running a 150 shot with a 23x/23x cam. I'm probably not going to be pulling the trigger and buying a new converter til next season anyways since I've got a lot on the table with other projects going on. Thanks for the response tho and i'm sure I'll be giving you a call when I do decide to buy a new converter. Its good to see threads like this to see how people like their different converters for the th400 setup since their isn't to much info on the internet with different combos on a ls1 f-body platform.
