Default Gain from a SS4000

Next month I decided I am putting in a converter. A SS4000 Yank. I just had a question or two. Do you guys recommend replacing the flexplate on a 2002 camaro. It looks to be in good shape no cracks. And the second question is how much reduction should I see at the track. My current times are

2.050 60'
8.48 @ 85.1 1/8
13.14 @ 105.40 1/4

Thanks, Jared

You might as well change the flexplate while your in there, but you don't have to have it.

You'll need to get some tires or you might go slower. I just picked up .5 in the 1/8 with a PT4000 and was having to ease into the throttle to keep it from spinning. I actually only picked up .2 in the 60 on that run. Once I can hook I'm sure I'll get a few more tenths out of it.

I would do it just for insurance. Plus you are already going to have everything apart. Do it if you can

Does a ss converter gain mph in the 1/4. Right now I'm at 105.4 I am adding a cutout so That should help a little. I would like to run 107-108. Let me know. I just ordered some M/T drag radials.

yup a well built converter by a company like yank or circle d will add mph, mine added 1mph over stock...

nice choice on the converter you will be happy, also replace the flexplate, the 02 are pretty thin...

What kind of flexplate are you going with? Anyone ever break one in the 425 HP and less range?

I am thinking of just keeping the stock flexplate. I only have around 415 horse or so. Maybe 335 at the wheels. I think it will be ok for a little bit. I just had no clue a mild bolt-on car could run a 1.5x 60'. Thats movin

All the info on flexplates:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...upgrade-5.html

I think that changed my mind too. Now have to figure out bolts for it. Looks like TCI is the way to go

What was ur mph prior to having a stall, My average mph is 105-105.5. I have a crappy slp cme muffler. I am adding a cutout so I am hoping that will help mph to get me to mid 106's. So then with a converter possible 107. That would make me very happy.

From 323 to 373 save your money for a 12 bolt . Thats what I did and you can grow into it.

Hughes has the better deal $132 for their SFI flexplate at Summit. Run a short belt and you will hit 107 I bet.

ss3800 and the switch from 273 to 373 took me from 2.0 60' 8.68 at 87 to 1.58 60' 7.82 at 89. After a dyno tune I haven't 60'd or et'd better but have a best mph of 90.7

I went 1.61 when my car was similar to yours. You will definatly need a good tire and good track prep.
