I don't think they made a Dexron 4. They went from 3 to 6.

Dexron for some reason went from III to VI
There is also an ATF+4 but it's not Dexron.

I forgot the reason for no IV

This will go in my next trans oil drop (or may wait till I toast the stock tranny and get a built one). It's costly though.

Allison is now using Dex VI. Dexron VI was development specifically for the GM 6 speed.

Be careful there, only the Allison 1000 series was designed in a codeal with GM Powertrain so they ended up having to use GMs specs for oil and shipped with DexVI iirc. GM can mfg and call it an Allison as long as they don't make a design change.

Allison Transmission uses TranSynd in the Medium/Heavy Duty Transmissions that they manufacture to this day. DexVI would VOID the warranty on these transmissions, and circa I believe 2006 it would cause physical problems due to seal compatibility issues.

I'll be at Allison in the next month or two to talk to their oil guy, i'll se what more info I can find out!!!

TranSynd is a better fluid if you want to pay for it. I was Just pointing out that some Allisons did go to Dex 6.
