Default School Project 4l60e Rebuild

Well recently my hawk lost 3rd and 4th and im figuring from what iv read is its just the 3-4 clutch pack is gone out. I was looking around on the net and most of rebuild packs iv found have 4l60e/700r4 on them. are these to transmissions about the same or are the same, if so it would be nice because our shop manual has the 700r4 process in it. also in your guys oppinion wat would be the best rebuild to do on it. its a full bolt on right now and since this has happend i have to put a hold on the cam. in the spring i will be taking it to the track. i would like to just put a new built tranny in it but im only in highschool and money is tight. thanks

Yea it sounds like your 3-4 clutch pack went out the 4l60e/700r4 are very similar just one is electronically controlled (the "e" at the end). internally a few things look a little different but they are basically the same transmission. While your in there you might as well replace all the fiber clutches and check the condition of the steels that contact them. Theres a few little upgrades you can do here and there but if no hard parts are gone and your on a budget id replace just the clutches.

Do you know what year the 700 is? There are some other improvements that you may need depending on the year of the transmission.

I think you missunderstood him, What i think he means is his car has a 60e and his school book shows the build for a 700r4.

I will say this
1-If you are doing thisto ave money that will not likley be the outcome
2-If this is your daily driver don't do it
3-If you are doing it because you want to learn and are pateint and are prepared for extra cost and down time if something does not go right = Go for it thats how we learn.
I will say that even in some of the seemingly best prepared people who try it on a first attempt many I have seen fail.

I would definitely at least get and ATSG manual for a 60e to use they are similar in most ways but the valve body is a whole different animal

You also might find this thread help full in making your decisions and for information
