Default need your .02 cents

i bought my 95 t/a with a bad motor. guy said trans rebuilt 6k ago definately believe that cuz it shifts good and was very clean when i pulled it. he also said the coverter was a 2400 it was painted blue like most shops do. when i put my motor behind it and took it down the road it seemed like their was no higher than factory stall at all. so i decided i wanted to look around for a heavier duty trans and stall before my motor would destroy it. so i made a deal with sevenstars to do a trade my 6spd swap for his built 60e and 2400 stall.

finally got it in last night and took it for a ride. i hear a whining now and when i rev it up it vibrates real bad. and it feels exactly the same as before no higher than factory stall. WTF? so now im worse off than before.

why is it vibrating when i rev it up?

whats the whining noise? aftermarket pump louder in trans or something?

why does it seem like i have no stall if i tried 2 supposedly 2400 converters?

well not sure what your looking for in the way of stall feel and 2400 is not much stall at all , You could probably only brake stall one of those to like 1800 or so.
The whining noise is not normal , You could have a damaged pump or a bad converter, does it happen only when moving or even setting still in park running ?

Sounds like the converter to me. Possibly a problem with the internal stator having a bent vein causing it to be off balance and rubbing the inside of the shell. The whine could be the pump though or a bad bearing in the torque. Any reason for a blower cam with no blower? Probably don't need a big stall as most of those cams idle rather well anyway

i hear it driving. i dont remember if i heard it in park. i tried brake stalling it and it spun at like 1300 ish

reason for the blower cam is when i built the motor those were my intentions with it. now its just hurting me without a sc. i called crower and they said a 2000 stalls all i need. but it doesnt feel like any stall.

Does it whine in park and nuetral or all of the gears? If it whines in all the gears it is the pump. If it only whines in gear then it is the converter. When the trans is in neutral the internal converter components are allowed to spin and come to a stop when put in gear.

i dont get it.. say its the pump. it shifts good and goes into gear quick. i thought if the pump was screwed up it wouldnt do anything

and as for the bad vibration? are converters balanced differently?

im going to the garage today to see if it whines all the time

The balance should be completely neutral on a converter to keep vibration to a minimum and be compatible with any build. If the pump wasn't working it wouldn't shift, but it could be damaged or just bad and making noise. Neither is a good scenario as you just put it all in and the fix requires it to come back out.

this trans supposedly has less than 5k on it and is all built up here is the ad

Steet/Strip 4L60E - This 4L60E tranny was recently build by a professional
transmission shop. The tranny was built with race
frictions and steels, the beast reaction shell, a 29
element input sprag, a 10 vane pump which is prefered
over the 13 vane pump because it has the same amount
of surface area as the 13 vane pump but the vanes take
up less area which crates more volume, hi performance
kevlar band, an elevated pressure regulator spring, and a
transgo HD2-C reprogamming kit which allows full manual
shifting through the gears as well as automatic shifting
while in drive. This tranny was used behind a 450
horsepower engine and had no problem handling the
power.

It vibrates in park/neutral? I've installed many a converter over the years, even name brands, that vibrate, right out of the box. Unbolt it and move it over one spot, rebolt it, and try it again. If this was used, did you get a chance to feel it work before you bought it? Just to relate-we pulled a 350LU out of a 4.3 Monte Carlo that we drove and sat it on the shelf while the customer spent a few months getting a 350 to install in the spring. When we installed the motor, put the original trans back in and filled it up. It whined and vibrated. This was a few years back. The customer and I drove the car together to make sure ther was nothing wrong in the fall. He got it from his grandmother. The car was beautiful. We cut it open and found metal packed in 8 veins in one end of the converter. Its possible it was going bad and the metal was in the atf. After it sat, it all went to the bottom. This, I believe was the vibration. Good Luck.
