Hardest part is getting the car high enough. I use 4 large 6ton jackstands. My floor jack goes fairly high and still wont get the car high enough to sit on the stands fully extended. I use a cinder block on the floor jack under the k-member to get it higher.

I have followed the http://modernmusclecars.net/forums/a...p?do=tcinstall writeup. I am at the point of installing my new trans. Will I need to put the trans on the trans jack 1st and then roll it under the car? Or is it possible to roll the trans jack under the car without the trans and then load the trans on to the trans jack while it's under the car? I am asking because I won't have to get the car up quite as high on the jack stands if the trans can be put on the trans jack while it's already under the car. I can have a friend help me put the trans on the trans jack while we're under the car. I am just wondering if there is enough room to do it this way. Has anyone done it that way? Thanks.

I put mine in last night. I had bought a tranny jack but it was to tall to fit under the car with the trans already on top, so me and 4 other guys just lifted it instead and put a few bolts in.
If you can use the tranny jack I'm sure it will help, just remember you have those 2 dowel pins to line up with the bellhousing and the block. And also put the dipstick tube back into the trans before you get it all the way up, much easier that way.

ive done it both ways. As long as the car is high enough to slide the trans under the car with it on the ground(around 17in high) then there is plenty of room for two people to lift it on the jack. the last two times i put it on the jack before going under the car. much easier i found. you just need a good floor jack that can reach high enough.

just comes down to personal preferance

Position the jack under the car where you want it. Then slide the trans under and have another person help you position it onto the jack
