Torque converter.Is a cam neccesary Hello i own 1998 pontiac trans -am A4.I am instread in purchasing a toruqe converter.But a person told me that it is not neccasery to go with a after maket torque converter unless i get a cam shaft.Is that true?

Torque converters are great even with a stock motor. They will still give you gains of up to .5 in the quarter.
A Torque Converter should be every automatic ls1 drivers first mod!!!!! The converter will give you the ability to run a large cam when you want to go internal engine however.

Also you might want to do some research on TCI, and Yank's sights. They are listed in the sponsors. ---->

Re: Torque converter.Is a cam neccesary If you do decide to get a TC you will need a Tranny cooler and a shift kit (TCI or TransGo work fine). I got my whole setup from TR for just under 722 bucks. Good luck man.

Re: Torque converter.Is a cam neccesary I prefer the Yank converters. Ive run a Precision 3200, Midwest 3700, Yank ST3500, and now a Yank SS3800. Out of all of them the Yank felt like it pulled the hardest up top, and I got the best ET's out of the Yank. I would definately stick with a name brand converter after seeing the TCS thread up top.
