The biggest thing to compare for times is HP/TQ,race weight and DA.It can add up to a huge swing in track times.

but not cam only...haha

i agree with 2 of your variables weight and DA, HP/TQ really dont tell you anything...the third one should be mph...

Yeah you are right it could be argued for eternity. I actually recently sold my ET Streets on Camaro wheels because I desperately needed the money, since I'm a college student with bills to pay and slashed hours because the economy. My one roomate is going to sell me his 275 BFG DR's for really cheap so I hope they are ok, I know they aren't no M/T's but financially I have no choice and they are better than 275 street tires. Dead hooking on the street with my old SS3600 and ET Streets was an adrenaline rush.

Wow thats pretty badass! My old SS really hit the tires HARD.

Yeah I get that alot lol. Sometimes I think why didn't I do this to another car but hey cars are meant to be driven and I enjoy driving it much more now than I did when it was stock so no regrets. Luckily one day years from now if I change my mind I could put the car back to 100% stock in a weekend if I really wanted to, I kept everything I took off.

I mean does anyone really think I would run better times than I have already with a PT4000…
You just need to try a PT and see what the difference is so we can all see the results! Like I've said, I have run both and the PT takes it hands down. I know you're talking about the PT4000 versus the SS4000, but my results with the PT4400 still apply. Unfortunately I don't have track results or data logs, so it's basically my word that everyone has to believe. If the SS4000 was truly better, don't you think I'd be running it instead of the PT? I'm for max performance and the SS just doesn't compare. I'll flip your argument and voice a guess that I'd go slower with an SS4000 versus my current setup. I can assure you that the PT owns the SS from a roll....and you'd see that for yourself if you ever ran one.

I've said it before and I'll say it again....the guy that developed these converters and makes these converters everyday, the guy that knows these converters better than anyone, says the PT>SS for NA performance. Yes, your car shows off the best side of the SS4000, but your car is also a freak and very few have been able to match your results, with any converter. But until you throw a PT in and see what it'll do, you really don't have an argument. And for the record, I'm not disagreeing with you. The SS might be the ideal converter for your setup, but I don't believe your results are anywhere close to typical. Yes, the SS4000 is a great choice for a lot of setups, and it's extremely popular for a reason, but it's not the top dog. I for one dismissed the SS series the first time I drove the PT4400. Unless I drastically alter my setup, I'll never replace this PT. It's that much better in every aspect for what I use my car for.

I'm not going to turn this into another drawn-out argument....your car is obviously a monster on a level most of us won't see for a long, long time and it works very well. But you don't know that it wouldn't work better until you try both. Even though I don't have any data, I can tell you without a doubt which worked better for me. I'll leave it at that, but I really do hope to see a comparison some day from you. If you'll try the PT, I'll try an SS and we can present the findings for all to see. How about it!

I wish my dad had a pt4000 instead of a pt4400 so it could be apples to apples...here is larrys post where he tried all three converters...ss4000, pt4000 and pt4400...the pt4400 did the worst it was too loose and eats up mph...the pt400 did nice and was even with the ss4000 which he states didnt use the short belt mod, new air induction and 50 lbs lighter...so the ss4000 might even 60ft a hair better with the added power and less weight...

https://ls1tech.com/forums/drag-raci...-faster-3.html

ss4000 60ft 1.41 mph 124 (this was without short belt, new air induction and 50lbs heavier, so mph would be about the same as pt4000)
pt4400 60ft 1.44 mph 123 (no mod changes between pt4000 and Pt4400)
pt4000 60ft 1.40 mph 126

so i dont really need to do the test someone else already has...thinking of putting my dads pt4400 in just to prove it again...

I would guess the SS4000 would 60' the best of them all. Was this equal conditions? The PT4400 certainly isn't for everyone, and I can see it being too loose for certain applications. Too many have had absolute success with it though to rule it out. Definitely should throw that 4400 in and do a legitimate comparison. You seem to present lots of data that most would never look at in your comparison's, so we know it would be a fair one. I still think you'd pick up MPH and lose in the 60'....ET is anyone's guess.

Try to do an equal comparison for us all since I didn't. Will you be able to run it at the track under identical conditions?

The PT and SS series according to Dave's website clearly shows the STR's of the converters.

Of course the PT4000 is going to be better from a roll, it's far more efficient than the SS4000. It's all about what your goals are. Not really sure why we are arguing about these converters, it's like saying Megan Fox is better than Jessica Alba, it depends what you like or are looking for.

The PT4000 has a STR of 2.2 vs. the SS of 2.6. That's a pretty big difference. So yes, given two similarly modded cars the SS will hit harder off the line, but which will win?? Well idk if you can do a fair comparison unless you are racing at the same temp and the same car. Probably, isn't many guys that have swapped from the PT to SS or vice versa, looks like we got one so far.

Well its going to be 2 different cars, it will be a few weeks.

Trans am- ss4000, headers, ory, flowmaster muffler, ls6 intake, 373s
this went average 1250s @ 105 but went 1230s @ 107 with good air.

Formula- pt4400, headers, ory, moroso spiral flow, ls6 intake, shift kit, 15" wheels,323s. Hoping for 1220s @ 108 in normal air.
