Default Tranny cooler for A4

i heard it is almost necessary if you have a high stall torque converter.
but i think you should have one anyway.
$50, come on
even i was able to afford that at one time

I didn't bother with one until I got an aftermarket converter.

Yes, even a stock car will benefit from one. If you have major mods, and/or a bigger stall, you really do need one. Also not a bad idea to invest in a deeper trans pan and cooler fan settings (keep more air blowing across the cooler) to keep the temps down further.

I have one on my car and my Tranny temps never got above 170 in 95 degree weather driving in bumper to bumper traffic. But I also have an aluminum transmission oil pan that holds 2 extra quarts of oil.

Not to hijack the thread but Graphite, that is a tight *** ride. Do you happen to have more pics of the entire car? If so I'd love to see them.

Your transmission will thank you for the sub-200 degree temps you will see with the aftermarket cooler.

definitely a good mod for a stock converter and ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY ON WITH A HIGH STALL!!!!!!

just make sure (particularly if you have the high stall) to do a stat and hypertech or something to turn ur fans on earlier....ya need some air to draw through the cooler....my 9 inch 3400 stall converter had my tranny running 200 plus degrees even with the cooler and stock thermostat....i still have the stock stat but i have the fans coming on at like 170 degrees now and the tranny runs nice and cool now....

the one i got from tsp ($49?) is tiny as hell i can't imagine how it can really help unless you are travelling at a decent speed.

I have a 4200 converter and have a 28k cooler and a stock trans pan. I sometimes wonder that the temp gets up to after like 4 passes in a row at the track. Might do the large trans pan next summer.

one word AUTOTAP!!!!

its a LOT of money to buy the cable but once you have it download the software (free) and plug ur laptop into the car....you can check ANYTHING including tranny temp...you can even make passes with it hooked up and play it back to see all kinds of stuff.....
