plug size for trans cooler on radiator side
i swapped a th400, and got an external trans cooler. does anyone know what size plug (or part number) i need for the two threaded holes on the rad?:
I know they are 1.25 pitch but I couldn't find anything with the search.
thanks for any help/advice

I plugged them before to prevent dirt from getting in if the cooler was ever going to be used again, and to stop the trans fluid dripping until it was empty.
Autozone used to keep these under the counter in gray drawers, but they don't anymore.
I think Ace hardware has them, maybe Napa or one of the older parts stores might.
It's been a while since I bought these.

My local Advance still has blister packs of various flare / barb /
pipe type fittings.
A single piece of double-ended line could be bent close-in and
just connect them (but sealed). Not as pretty, maybe more
available.
Places that sell radiators, may have a surplus of the soft plugs
they ship with (at least, from quality radiator mfrs) that they'd
give you for free.

NPT, National Pipe Thread http://www.arivalves.com/design_tool...e%20thread.pdf
Actually that was for your PM, it's not NPT, and that link shows why.
So what came out of the hole, a flare nut with a flared end of a steel hose? If the hole looks like this it's inverted flare.
Really if you're just plugging the holes you can cross thread whatever fits in it and since no pressure will be in it you'll just assume that was the size.
You never did say what it came out of, if it came out of an f body it has 5/16 inverted flare threads.

Heres a 2002 camaro SS radiator.
Heres a 1972 th350.
That 5/16 inverted flare fitting fits properly in both.

rad issues
first time on site but you guys seem to know stuff. I bypassed rad on 06 CTS and installed external tranny cooler and it is leaking coolant when running. I thought this was a closed system. What is happening ?!!!
