Default TCI cast aluminum deep pan

I bought a TCI trans pan last week and it arrived today.

It's a pretty nice piece. Looks well built and even came with quality black oxide internal hex bolts.I had figured on cheap bolts being included and had already gone out and purchased some internal hex bolts.

One question though. Do you use a stock filter with this thing?

Thanks to Kevin Winstead for the recommendation.

Stock filter here too! Watch out for speed bumps once it is on - it is low!

Lerajie,
The stock GM filter works fine.

The parts dept. of the Pontiac dealer closed earlier than I thought today so I went to NAPA for a trans filter. The salesman asked me if I wanted the filter for the deep pan or the stock pan. I didn't even know the LS1 was offered with a deep pan in the F-bodies. I chose the standard pan filter. I hope I got the right one because I am driving 60miles away to install this thing on my father in laws lift.

Yeah U should be all set, I believe the deep pan he was refering to is the one for the 1500 series GM trucks, which have a deeper pan than our 4L60E in the F chasis!

Ahh,that would make sense. I asked him about that and he insisted his computer said it was for the F-Bodies.The stock type filter fit perfectly.

So, I installed this today. Everything went well. I used the provided socket head cap screws and added some hardened washers to make sure they didn't bite into the soft AL too much. This thing sits LOW. I'm gonna have to be extra careful of speed bumps. Hope to get A-Tap or a trans temp gauge soon as well as a cooler.

BTW: Working with a lift is SOOOOO much better than lying on my back in my garage. I really wish I had to the overhead clearence to get one myself.

You should have gone with the truck filter. I use it with my truck pan, which is of course deeper than stock.

The stock filter will not sit low enough in a deep pan to suck fluid from the bottom of the pan. That is why the trucks (with deeper pans) have the lower filter.

Not really a big deal to worry about, but next time you do a fluid change, I'd get the lower (truck) filter.

You can't use the truck filter with this pan. There are cast in filter supports in the bottom of the pan that will not allow a filter that sits any lower than stock.

Sorry, I didn't realize this post was for a TCI pan. I mis-read the title...

It's late and my brain is tired.
