Default Switched to TYPE-F today

Decided to get a complete trans flush and switch to Type-F today.

Ran "Wynns trans cleaner" through for 10minutes then 10qts (trans holds 8.8 in case anyone cares) and finally "Wynn's high friction additive"

Trans put out 20-40psi at idle (depending on gear) during the process.

I used Castrol Type-F.It was the only name brand ATF in type-f avilable locally.

Will probably switch to Redline racing fluid when my new deep pan gets installed.

Shifts seem smoother if anything which I find odd.

I question the "Wynns Trans Cleaner" and ESPECIALLY the "Wynn's High Friction Additive." These things, at the very least, are NOT necessary.

I can say with a great degree of certaintly that if you do a regular 'ole flush with nothin' but STRAIGHT F-type, you'll see better shifts. I had the flush place try to sell me their "tranny cleaner" and "shift improver" (which simply means that it'll shift SLOPPIER) when I went too. I stood right over them and made damn sure they only installed F-type fluid and nothing else. This STOCK frictions tranny with 27,000 miles has NEVER shifted better.

yeah same here, I agree with colonel, i bought my own fluid and poured it in the machine myself, I didn't drive it that much after the flush which was a couple days ago but the following day i took it that car on a long trip and the car just feels so much crisper and "lighter" in a way for a 1.22 a qt couldn't be better.

Ya know, I have been thinking about the additives since I had it done. From what I read here the only difference is the additives. So that would have to be why I am not getting results.Right?

I am using Castrol ATF and it claims smooth shifting on the back.

I put about 20miles on the car today and it's shifting slightly quicker but alot smoother.

I think I am going to get it redone without additives after I get the deep pan installed.

thanks

Can you just drain the pan and change the filter then refill it with the Type-F? What brand to get? I see Autozone has their own brand.

Just draining the pan doesn't come close to changing all of the fluid. The best way it to use a flushing type machine. It should take about 14 qts.

8.8qts total fluid capacity of the stock converter/4l60e.

That's according to the transmission flush machine reference manual.

I think you get 5 or 6 qts out on a pan drop.

Well, They all are supposed to follow the Type-F standard but I'd imagine there would be slight differences brand to brand.

OK, I am now running straight NAPA Type-F and a TCI cast AL deep pan. Shifts are indeed firmer. WOT 2-3 causes the car to jerk forward where it used to just slip in. Shifting into 2nd under all conditions is similar to cold 1-2 shift when I was running DEX3.
