trans go 4l80e-3
trans go 4l80e-3 is a manual valvebody conversion for the trans. i am in the same boat you are with my GTO. im in the process of rebuilding a 4l80e now for it. and i am going with this kit. that way my car still sees it as a m6 car. just waiting on the kit to get here to see how it all works

The TransGo HD-3 kit does convert the VB's to full manual.
The kit needs some changes to be effective.
It has a common complaint of a too slow 2-3 shift. This needs to be addressed.
I've also recently seen issues with a high rpm (hot only) WOT 1-2 shift issue. TransGo suggests drilling the holes that feed the 1-2 shift valve larger. I am also installing a heavier 1-2 shift valve spring to help exhaust it.
The kit will be receiving some major changes in the near future. It will be getting the sandwiched plate like the HD-2 kit got a year or so ago.

I'm in the process of the same swap. If I were you, Id go with the 99 pcm swap and run the trans go stage 2 hd kit. I wouldnt want to give up the stock shifting. I actually have an extra 99 pcm if you are interested $100. Their is a right up somewhere on changing all the pins in the pcm connectors from the 98 to the 99 ends. I'm going with the Circle D converter for the 4l80e. They have a post on like page 5 of this section, They had a sale on their converter and it is a really nice converter(my opinion best out right now) Hope some of this helps you out.

a 98 computer WILL NOT control a 4l80e... you will have to get a 99-02 comp, harness. and then if you like all your gauges workn you will need a new dash cluster and fuel tank to do the complete swap 100% correct
or u can get a standalone comp (tci or equiv) to control the transmission, but then you are adding more cost
