Stall question

Default Stall question

I'm not sure if this belongs here or not, but here goes.

I'm doing a heads and cam swap in my 98 C5, but trying to budget it out some. I have a Yank SS 3600 stall that I'm going to be putting in. I want to pay a shop to do the stall, then afterwards I want to do the heads/cam/headers myself. (when I have the cash for the headers and cam).

Would it cause issues to drive the car with that stall in the car and everything else stock for a short time if needed?

Let me say that the car is not a DD. I've put maybe 1K miles on it since last winter. I just don't want to be in a scenario where I can't drive the car. Plus I can't just fork up the cash for the install, cam, and headers at the same time.

The shift points will be a little off w/o a tune but I drove mine for three months before it was tuned. Mine shifted way early like 5k at wot.

I drove my 3200 for a month untuned with no issues. Timing on shifts was pretty good as well. Shifts will become fairly soft after the new stall.

You are right and that is why a Transgo shift kit went in with mine Don't forget the cooler either.....

Im running the B+M 26K plate type cooler. Its about $60 with everything you need to hook it up.

im surprised some people had no problems running an aftermarket stall untuned with no problems. once i did my cam and stall at once and tuned, i guess there was an SES code that popped up..something like P0751 or something like that.. i know it has happend to a few people.. it was horrible..after getting it deleted the car definitely drove perfect.
