With HP Tuners, you now have the option of keeping the converter locked when you let off the gas. So, get the segment swap!

Are you sure? Early it was mentioned no one was sure. I wouldnt mind since I have a 3600 stall converter.

Right now I am running a 6.0/4L80e PCM/harness. I would love to stop the converter from unlocking.

The tables have been added in HPTuners. I haven't had a 80e vehicle in the shop to try it out on however.

I have the segment swap in mine and still have not figured out how to keep the converter locked. I have the added tables, and have made some changes suggested by others. It doesn't bother me a whole lot at this point, but would eventually like to get it figured out.

I can email you my tune if you wanna tweak it for the added tables and let you know if it worked. I have HPT Pro, but I am far from comfortable with messing with too much.

The mod Slow67 is still an ideal solution in my opinion, it's especially helpful for '98 PCMs, since in the past a lot of '98 owners were forced to either swap the PCM or run a full manual setup on the 80e

You have to do this:
- invert the sense of the 2-3 shift solenoid signal using a relay,
- drive the TCC PWM signal from either TCC On/Off, or from TCC PWM gated by TCC On/Off thru a relay;

studying the HMTG's will show that that's what is needed.

I wouldn't mind looking at your tune as well, I have 5.3/4L80E with segment swap. I've only driven down the street so far but I'd like to see a comparison tune. Thanks

im in the middle of a 4l80 swap but i have 2 questions....

i bought the spear tech adapter harness without realizing the segment swap that results in losing lockup when you let off the throttle.are you all saying that now that isnt a issue anymore and i dont have to modify my harness pins?

secondly if i buy slow67's method, does the round plug from my 4l60e reach the connecting point on the 4l80 or does it have to be extended?

I just used that speartech harness harness adapters and then had the tuner add the 80e bin file to my tune. But I havent payed any attention to the lockup and only have a LS6 cam.

hopefully someone will chime in..maybe the speartech not a bad idea since i wont have to worry about relays going bad.but if still having lockup off the pedal wit the the 4l80e file is true and verified ill leave it at that

Funny you ask that. I ran without for a while and wondered why my trans was shifting horribly hard. Once I finally slipped those two pins into the connector, the trans ran smooth as new.

But today I had a race and didnt want the stock slipping shift. So I unplugged it before the race. When you do that it'll snap your neck! haha

I am trying to figure out what I want to do with my 5.3L/4L80E combo...

I planned on doing the segment swap but I sent my Tune to HP tuners and they said I have to get a dealership to flash my PCM to the new 9381344 OS before they can do the segment swap.

Has everyone else here that has done the segment swap had to do this?
My PCM is from a 99 Camaro M6.

None of the dealerships seemed confident at all they they could do this OS update correctly and I got price quotes from $100-$300. Seems pretty high.

At $300 and a chance they might screw it up the relay mod is looking like a better option at this point.
