Default What stall for 2.73's?

I was thinking of getting a stall in spring. I have 2.73's now. Will get 3.73's one day. Might be a while for that though. What size stall should I get that will be ok with the 2.73's? Thanks.

With 2.73's, you'll want to keep it on the smaller side unfortunately....no bigger than 3600 IMO. I'd also suggest getting gears ASAP!

I was thinking of getting the gears first. I'm sure 3.73's will help a ton. Most of my racing is on the street. I might go to the track 2 times a year if I go.

Normally I'd say stall before gears....but in your case, it might not be a bad idea. It's just that a stall is the single best mod for an auto car, period. It changes everything and turns what is an arguably boring ride into a monster. I had a 6-speed SS, and after having this stalled auto, I'll never go back. I'd rather drive this any day of the week.

I'd get the gears first and then match the stall to your gears. Otherwise, you'll be driving around with a mismatched converter, or worse, select a converter that fits you now but not later.

get a rear end out of a 6 speed car. 3.42s work great on the street plus are alot better then 2.73 at the track.... you could pick up 1 of those for 150 to 200 bucks

My opinion is that you should match the stall speed
to the motor (now, or plan). A higher STR will help
a bit with the 1st gear being too tall. Without a cam
I think something like a 3500/2.5 for as-is, but with
3.73s later you will just have traction problems. I
did with 3.23s and 3.42s, and less multiplication.

I agree with the others. Think about some gears now. They will benefit you greatly. Don't look at gear swaps look at swapping the whole rear for a 3.23 auto or 3.42 6 spd car. We picked up a 3.42 rear for $150. We have another one that we got for $200. Never can have too many 10 bolts right?

GO with 3:42s thats what I ran in my 10bolt before I will to the 12bolt when I had a street car. The 342s are great pm the hwy and street racing. Go gears then stall man.

id go with a 3300 stall with a 2.5 str for 2.73-3.42 gears . if u decide to step up the gears to 3.73's or 4.10's then id go with a 3600 with the same str

I ran a very loose 4k converter with 323s for a long time.. ms4 cam..

It was fine.. The gears definitely woke it up, but nothing like the cam did.

I say converter and get the gears when you can. IMO converter is the VERY first mod to an a4.

I have some 3.23s lying around with low low miles if interested.

Get a 4k Yank before or after the gear swap.

This is what I was getting at....but I'd be a little leary of trying a big stall with 2.73's. I don't know, maybe it wouldn't be so bad....I'm currently trying out a 5000 stall and I'm still sporting the 3.23's. And I can honestly say the PT4400 was awesome with the 3.23's. That setup would pull to the moon, and then some. Just remember that a stall will gain you a lot more than gears.

I've been running a Vig 3200 on my 2.73's for some time now. I didn't want to waste any money on the rear unless I was putting in a 12-bolt. Well 3 yrs later and my rear is still fine . I'll be adding a procharger soon, so we'll see.

Here we go. A stall is dollar for dollar the best mod you can do. I would change the gear as well. The 3.42's will work fine and are inexpensive.I would recomend nothing less than 3600 . The future plans that you have with the car would ultimately dtermine my recomendation. Even with 2.73's you will see a drastic et reduction with a converter and since we give a free stall change with any of our SRLS series 9.5" billet converters, the converter can grow with your combo!!!!

Same can be said...

Converter first, stock converter blows donkey *****.

Anybody who says that gears would help in his setup over a converter is out of their mind. Try not to jump on the wagon.

nothing like 2.73's to save that gas mileage lol. Thinking about swapping for some 3.73's and a good size stall in the future. I would go with gears first, cheaper than stall and notice a difference right away.

I had good luck with a 3400 in my 00 T/A. Had the 2.73 granny gears but was able to pull consistant 12.5's at the track with bolt on's and street tires.

Or go with the converter and notice a much bigger difference right away . OP, if you're gonna do both, do what you can afford now, and save for the other. Combined, your car will be a whole new animal .
