What cars or trucks can i get a transmission from that would work in my 99z other than a trans am? I've been told the trans from a 1500 silverado or sierra will work, but have to change the bellhousing and tail housing. Is it from a long bed , short bed, any help would be great.

Pretty sure the 1500's have the 4L65E tranny, which will hold up a little bit better than the 60 will.

There is not a length difference. Any 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive truck should work.

The tail shaft is different. you would need one from an f body .

69LT1Bird is correct. You will have to swap the linkage shaft in the side of the transmission where the shifter cable is attached. Also the second gear servo is different on the fbody. You might want to change this and then just swap your tail with the one on the unit and you are good to go. The bell and case are identical. Vince

I think you should rethink what you posted. Why would you have to change a ujoint when the output shaft yoke has the same splines and the same output shaft is used for both?

The only difference in this area is the housing and maybe a pressed on sleeve for a vented yoke on the truck model. For a fbody the sleeve can be removed. Vince

^^That will not work because it has a different input shaft and stator.
