Default Would I like a 3200 stall or higher on a stock motor?

Just wondering because my transmission guy says I might not like it so I want your guys advice on it. And also he cant find a reverse valve body for my car only the 4l60's have them.

Thanks
Matt

yes you will love it. 3500 to 3600 stalls seem to do the best on a stock motor.

You'll love a 3200, and if you're like the majority of the folks around here, you'll want more after driving the 3200 a couple times. With our cars, a 3600-4000 stall is plenty streetable, even for daily drivers. There are a couple tight 3600-4000 options available to you that really wake these cars up.

I can speak from personal experience about the Yank SS4000....one of the most popular converers out there right now. Very streetable and tight for its stall speed. It's a great street/strip converter that leaves a lot of room to grow (H/C, nitrous, etc.). If 4000 seems a little too high for you, look into the SS3600.

Your best bet would be to find someone local who has a stalled car and go for a ride. Also, call the companies and get the builders opinions. Just do your research and make the best decision for you. 3200 stalls certainly have their place....but don't automatically rule out the bigger converters.

Agree on the Yank SS3200-3600 recommendation for streetability and reliability. I was disappointed, though, to see no gains when I switched to the SS3600 from my old TCI 3000. In fact, it feels quite similar on the street, though it flashes 500rpm higher. My guess is, then, that the Yank SS3200 and SS3600 will feel and perform quite closely.

You will like whichever you choose.

Vig3600 here with light bolt ons and I love it. I bent the hub of the converter when i blew the trans and am having it "refreshed" by PI. When I do I think i'll go to 4000.

I was in your position and was stressing about getting too high and hating it. Everyone told me it's not as bad as you think and go higher than you think. They were 100% right, after having the 3600 for a few months I want a 4000.

DO IT!

Good luck!

Thats is definitely not typical. 600 rpm more stall and "probably" a better stall to begin with and it didnt feel any better when went WOT?

What exactly are you looking to do? I've had a 3600 and a 4000 now. I just have bolt-ons currently.

No regrets.

Is it factual that you cant keep tires on the car with a high stall I mean that you can spin them easily? Well it's not shifting right anymore wont shift out of 2nd in drive at wot on the highway have to let off for it to change. Cars completely stock other then gears and a dropin and a diablo tuner. I dont want it to lock up hard anymore at cruise in drive.

I know it sounds like a lot of money, but I'd recommend a STRONG rebuild and it sounds like you need it, along with a good transmission cooler.

Yes you can spin them easily. Street tires would be silly to use on my stall (SS4000)

Look up: allbaugh04 on youtube or search for ss4000 and you should find a video of me driving it.

I have boltons, 2.73 gears and 315 Nitto 555R Drag Radials, the pavement was cold and it was a cool night, but just gives you an idea of how much you will spin without a good tire.

It looked like your converter locked up at around 3750rpms.... Still hella nice pull on it though. Ive been thinking about a new stall on my a4 3.23 and I think 4000 is a little too much, I'm probably going to go 3200-3400 tops possibly 2800-3200 more practical...

onebadazz,
Dont run anything less than 3600. They can be built to drive tight or drive loose. The SRLS series 9.5" billet is on sale this week as well. If you would like to come to the shop we can show you what we do as we are local to you. Give me a call 1-386-736-5816
