I believe when the tranny is in park or nuetral the input shaft/drum spins, when its in gear it will engage the forward clutches and stop spinning until the car moves, so maybe somthing to do with that part of the tranny would be my guess as long as your sure its coming from the tranny.

maybe the front planetary is having issues? I think that will spin in P and N. I wouldn't think it would be the pump because it should spin in gear also.

If you rev it in P or N will the noise go with rpm? or is the noise a steady noise?

When I rev in P or N I don't hear the sound any more. Don't know if exhaust cover the sound but even at low rpm around 1500 I don't hear it. Exhaust not that loud tho but I don't hear the noise when I rev low

This will be hard to guess over the internet..LOL. If there is a local tranny shop, maybe swing by and see if someone has the time to look or hear it. If you do that I would usually through the mechanic a few bucks, kinda like a tip, even only $10 will be appriciated, keep in mind that their time spent not rebuilding tranny's is lost time and money out of their pocket.

It could possibly be the pressure regulator buzzing... it can do this when there is no load... when you increase the load it goes away.

When I came home from school today I put it in P no noise. Put in N no noise. Then I put it back in P and rev to about 3000rpm and when it went back to idle the noise came back. When I put it in D then R and back to N and P it goes away

The pressure regulator valve can sometimes oscillate rapidly, causing that a buzz or whine sound...

It may be due to various things:
- excessive clearance of the valve in the bore,
- presence of air,
- it might just do it anyway,
- other...

Did it just start happening, or was it always there...?

I don't know, if it's not overly loud it's probably ok.
