Default Torque Conveter kicked my A**

I put my Yank 4000ss in today . Everything went wrong Its probably because I live 10 minutes from the beach .FREAKIN RUST !! To start , 3 of the 6 exhaust manifold bolts broke . Even after spraying them and heating them cherry red . Then I had 2 of my torque converter bolts strip out and the other one broke my matco ratchet . They were unbelievably tight .Had to drill them out .Then my tranny was stuck to the block .That took an extra 20 minutes to get off . Putting it together was cake . It took me 5 1/2 hours on a lift to finish it .Including the ORY pipe and changing the trans fluid . Just got to fix a minor exhaust leak on the Y and something banging in the rear of the car . Probably the exhaust . Even "untuned " if seems to drive ok .Which is a big + Cant wait to break it in and Nail it !!

Sorry ,Just venting .

Sounds like you had fun. Why did you remove the exhaust manifolds to install a converter??

I recently installed a new converter in my car. I smashed my left pinky finger jacking up the car to get it on jackstands. That's one hell of a way to start a project.

Torque converters hate me. I did mine and broke the tranny pump, got it fixed and put it in and it broke again while driving.

The actual install though, sucks a lot on your back laying in a pool of tranny fluid. Bleh. I had to throw away like 6 tee shirts because once they get fluid on them they're ruined.

Glad you got it all together though, that's a nice converter.

Damn !! No major injuries for me during the install . Sorry to hear that Gatsby , I wouldn't even attempt it on the ground . Im spoiled by using my lift all day at work . Glad I didnt break anything yet . So far this converter feels AWSOME !!!! Still breaking it in though . Got something on banging underneath on acceleration though . I think my stock torque arm bushing (96K) is not happy with me and its touching the y pipe .Time to call BMR

It only took five and a half with all of the bolts breaking.....I would have just drivin it into the ocean at that point.

LOL ! I was thinking of driving it into the ocean after the first 3 hours . Breaking them was easy It was the fixing that was a PIA . Luckily ,I only had to fix the exhaust manifolds . A lift ,air tools ,torch and a trans jack sure helped too .

Sucks to hear it went so bad but at least you're done with it and now you get to enjoy a stalled auto
I did mine last month on a lift and when I hear about guys doing it on jackstands I want to go ad give them a metal or something

Yeah, jackstands are no fun. I feel like a nascar pit crew now taking out my trans. I can have it completely out in about 90 minutes. And that's including the jacking it up and bracing it. (Don't forget i have to jack the rear up to unbolt the driveshaft, then lower it and jack the front up). Stupid jackstands.

Reminds me of replacing my drivers-side cat. I don't have or have access to a lift, so I it on ramps and got to work. It wasn't long before I realized I needed more ground clearance, so I jacked it up with my jack and put jackstands under it. I still managed to break one of the studs off the exhaust manifold (shouldn't have just brute-forced it off like that) and I had to drill that SOB out! What a mess! Oil and metal shavings all over the garage floor! Not something I want to do again!
