Default Hit rev limiter from 2-3 shift

I had a 3600 TCI stall installed abut 4 weeks ago and never had a tune for it, but everything seemed fine. It would sometimes come unlocked, but rarely so I decided I shoudl go ahead and get it tuned. Well the other day I went WOT and saw the rpms kept climbing after 6000 rpms. It went to 6500 rpms and hit the limiter. I only let it bounce off once and then let off. I took it to my tuner and told him what happened. He said it's most likely the trans about to let go, but he'll mess with the shift points to hopefully get my by for a little while longer(hopefully til the end of this year). Just getting other people's thoughts about if it just needs a tune since it never had one or if it really could be the trans about to let go.

Also just wanted to add that all the shifts are fine at anything under WOT. No slipping what so ever.

Your trans is most likely fine!

I had the same issue after adding a stall.

The tuner told me that you have to command a shift a few hundred RPM ahead of where you really want it to shift and set the limiter a couple hundred RPM above the desired shift RPM.

So if you want to shift at 6500...command the shift (shift point) at 6200 and set limiter at 6700...general idea

There are WOT and Part Throttle shift tables which is why it's fine at part t not WOT. Also, at WOT there is much more power being applied which is decreasing the shift window with a stall.

Hope this helps!

yeah converter is looser than stock so for a given mph it will be at a higher rpm than before so the shift point need to be adjusted...

Ok, that makes me feel a lot better. I had done some research about if it could be my trans going or if I need to change my shift points. I kept getting mixed results with different situations. So I decided to make my own thread with my own situation. Tuner just called and let me know he's about to make some base pulls and then he's going to call me back to come up and watch the final pulls to see what it makes. Hoping low 300s. Thanks for the fast responses!

Just got back from the tuner and car feels much better. Shifts feel better, but haven't been able to go WOT. I'll probably do that tomorrow. Car mad 344whp and 341wtq with a locked converter.

Update: did a couple WOT pulls and car shifted great right at 6200 rpms. I might have the tuner drop my shift point down another 100 rpms to get the shift closer to 6000 rpms. Car pulls strong though and glad I got the shift points corrected.
