Nope, I'm saying his reputation proceeds him. He doesn't need asshats like you coming onto a board to do nothing but fluff his product. Tell your buddy Sad Dawg that his transmissions are **** and go ***** somewhere else.

You come on here pushing a product from a non-sponsor and expect people to embrace you? Even moreso you push a product that has failed time and time again and vendors here on this board have had more than enough issues with and you expect us to jump on your band wagon and agree? HELL NO! We are here to help eachother out. If any of us who have delt with dipshit Lou let anyone else go through that mess we wouldn't be doing what we should here on the board.

Like I and others have said already, either you are the luckiest SOB on earth or you are Lou himself or one of his employees. For some reason the mods haven't banned you yet.... unfortunately.

Don't really need to tell anyone when you make a post called "Post whoring thread"

You stood up to us? No, you made yourself look like a complete asshat.

BTW, welcome to the internet. This is where opinions are spoken freely and shat on by everyone

Have fun with it all. You might figure out how it works someday.

LMAO this thread went to ****...

I've heard that 4l80 are really good...are they worth the extra coin and all or would people be fine with a 4l60...I'm guessin this would be all dependant on the power being produced right?

Also what all would have to change to go from a 60 to an 80

thanks to all that posted my question - are any 4L60E actually running 600rwhp?

I see thay CAN - but only few can do it right, and longevity is questionable.
I'll look into the 4L80E swap into an LT1 - bet that's expensive!

I'm going TH350 and if the tears from missing overdrive hurt - I'll save up for GearVendors later.

I just can't be convinced anything less than 4 grand and a 4L80E swap will actually last.

A stout TH350 and good stall can be had for ~$1500 and the swap seems easy enough without any PCM shift tuning woes either.

I'm not talking transbrake racing stuff - just automatic tough enough to last more than one summer and not cost $2500 every time I touch it.

Back to old school - 650hp small block, TH350 and a 9" rear. nothing new.

The problem is that your not only loosing OD but with a stall and no lock up your are screwed for DDing and top end speed.

Oh I agree the new found pleasures of overdrive and lock up will be missed - I'm far from screwed by it.

After over 30 years driving TH350/TH400 cars with 3.50, 3.73 and 4.11 gears (daily) - I feel more screwed paying near 3 grand and hoping the overdrive lasts.

Since the 4L80E is out of budget right now, 3 forward gears it is. And I'm confident they will be there when I mash the pedal Don't forget - a stall couples up pretty well under throttle (top end).

I enjoy the lower rpm's on the highway for sure - but as little time the toy is driven steady on a highway I can't justify all that dough on a OD transmission, nope. Heck - I actually put my 4L60E down into 3rd gear alot when I drive secondary streets - must just be I'm old

Thanks to all that posted to my originnal question, I believe their are a group of successful 4L60E with 650rwhp on the street - but I'm seeing far too much failure.

I'm seeing more failure than I can stand. I've had this damn 65 out 5 times since spring. ha-ha Good thing it's a hobby for me or I'd be upset. My GTO is a daily driver though and this is getting old.

As for OD. There is no way I could do without it. The GTO has 3.45 gears and to my knowledge no one makes higher gears because it's an Ausi built rear end. At 6,400 RPM, which is where I shift due to the rear mount turbo, all I can get out of 3rd gear is 130 MPH. That just barely gets me down the quarter mile. And since this is a DD I usually run 70-150 races. I wish I had 2.73 gears, I'd just go with a TH400 and call it a day. But I'd still be stallin all the way to work without a lock-up. I'm fucked...

I feel your pain.

If you need 4th in the 1/4 mile - you really need to change gears IMO.
I see you're looking into that already.
I'd bail now on the 4L65E - just more $$ and time lost coming.

A 4L80E - if a swap is possible in your car - or a lower cost TH400 backed by a GearVendors over/under drive might be a nice option.
I see GV units on RV, towing and racing websites often - a few grand more to spend - but at least it will not break.
Also a "swith pitch" convertor is available for TH400 - locks up with a 12v switch in 2nd or 3rd gear I believe.

A switch pitch isn't lockup, it's 2 converters in 1, low stall and high stall.

Also 4l80es aren't as high as you might think. Jake's performance has them on sale right now for $2000 shipped (stage 2) with transbrake. A 4l80 is basically a th400 with overdrive (quite literally).

thanks! It wasn't the switch pitch then - I was reading so much the past days - one of the top trans guys was working with a switched TH400 lock up stall - Rossler, someone.

Jake offered me an awesome deal on a 4L80E swap - it just really adds up b/c I have to pay for labor and tunes also.
I need everything to swap smooth as possible at lowest total cost.

I need the trans to last - so I'll just wait and save if I have to.

I have a paralyzed right arm that adds to the challenge.
A fully automatic non computer controlled 4L80 would be awesome.
I could tune once - delete the A4 tables but VSS for the speedo/cruise - and use foot switch to manaage lock up. Just like a th400 with overdrive!
Oh, now that would be nice.

A 4L80 to be auto will require a controller. There is no provision for a governor to make it auto shift.
It's pretty simple to tune the A4 tables to control the 80, lockup and all.

You COULD use an air shifter to upshift it if using a manual VB.
