helpppp!!!!! my z28 wont moveeee
hello everyone this post is my first one.. i spoke with one of my friend and he recommend me to come here this website and talk with y'all guys..
last few weeks my 2000 camaro z28 with ls1 and 4l60e automatic acting funny with shifting.. i was reckon that my valve body was blew so i replace the valve body and plate.. it still have the same problem.. when i was on 1st gear and it wont shift unless i let the gas go and it shifts. then to 3rd with no problem and it wont go to 4th gear. then last night i drove it to gas station which is 1 mile away and i went up to 30 mph and somehow it wont shift at all and rpm keep flying away and it wont even move.. i guess its time for the rebuilt or new transmission..
i was wondering what y'all would recommend me to get.. the same 4l60e or 700r4 or 4l80e
i have the thoughts to build it with twin turbo but it depends on my budgets. i have pretty low budgets
wonder if i go with 700r4 or 4l80e is it hard? do i have to adjust some stuffs or whatever.. hope somebody will helpppp meeee
hope this forum will helps!! by the way camaro z28 rulessss!!!!

Hey, welcome to the forum! As to what exactly is wrong, some of the other guys with more experience could tell you, but it sounds like you've roasted the clutch packs? I know in my trans, the 3-4 clutch pack is going out because it won't shift from 2-3 unless I let off the throttle.
As for what to do, I wouldn't bother with going to the 4L80E unless you have some serious plans for the car later. There is a good bit involved in the swap because it isn't a direct drop in. The driveshaft would need to be shortened because the 4L80E is longer, and there are other things involved as well. You can read about it here: https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...l80e-swap.html
If I were you, I would stick with the 4L60E. The 700r4 is the same thing, just not controlled by the PCM. The 4L60E's have their weak points, but if you get someone to rebuild or replace it that has experience building 4L60E's, you shouldn't have any problem. I would take a look at RPM transmissions. They are a sponsor on this board (you can find them on the right hand side of the page), and they have an excellent reputation for building tough 4L60E's (I am looking into getting one to replace mine as well). They will ship a new one to you, rebuilt to their specs, and you just send yours back in the same crate.
Whatever you do, make sure you do it right the first time by someone who has experience with the 4L60E because there are plenty of guys on this board who have gone through several transmissions and learned this the hard way. These transmissions have their weak points, so it takes someone who knows what they are doing to build it right without it breaking in the future. Good luck!
Scott

I agree with Scott. Going to a 4L80e would be a little overkill at the moment. From what you have stated it sounds to me like you are having band issues in your trans. The lining has come off or it is just burn up. Either way the transmission is due for a rebuild. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Thanks,
Jeremy

alright thanks for the good information.. i guess i will stick with 4l60e alike yall said.. i saw the website and it pretty very pricey.. how hard it is to rebuild? i am mechanic myself but not the transmission guy.. i have no idea with the transmission. the valve body took me all day to get it done.. so should i just buy the rebuild kit? would yall recommend me to replace converter also? what stall i should get to keep my stock ls1 last longer and i will put some more things on the engine in the future so whats ur recommend for me?

I would highly recommend changing the converter because all the material from your transmission failing will be trapped inside of it. If you put that used converter in a new transmission it will pump all the trash out of the converter and back into your fresh new transmission.
For a stock LS1 I would keep the stall speed below 3600rpm. We recommend Precision Industries and have had fantastic luck with them.
Also when you install a new transmission ALWAYS flush out the cooler lines and the cooler to prevent any trash from contaminating the new transmission.
Hope that helps. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.
ok i will find a shop around here to do the rebuild.. how much will i find out it cost me for a rebuild if i bring the parts myself and they just rebuilt it?? i don't want to get ripped off by the shop.. thanks!!!

most " shops" an't going to allow you to bring your parts, for a complete rebuild in my area runs about 14-1500 very close to the same price if you buy from one of our sponors, the last rebuild on my 60 cost me about a grand in "wholesale" parts alone and a freind from a local dealership came and did the rebuild.
as to the converter, may be best to replace as it may be full of trash, would be a time to install good stall.
".....have the thoughts to build it with twin turbo .."<<<<if and when you may need a good " built"/upgrade trans/ built converter to hold the twins
