Who has a YPT in their daily driver?
I'm looking for a converter upgrade, and I'm considering the PT4000/4200. Who has one of these in their d/d, and how do you like it? I know it will be looser than the Vig I have, but the Vig doesn't feel that loose to me. I would like to keep my 3.42s as well.

I have a yank tp4400 in my daily driver. My only complaint is the terrible gas mileage I get. But from what I understand anything over a 3000 stall results in crap for mileage. Also, I recommend a quiet exhaust for these big convertors, as they sound terrible slipping at 3000 from a redlight.

I had one for about 2 years (now have a PS 4400). Some days the looseness got to me; most days it didn't. It will be a lot looser than your vig 3200. raise your part throttle shift points a bit and that will help.

i have one also with 3.23's and when i take off normal, i get up to 3 grand, shitty gas mileage i guess, i havent checked yet though... my exhaust doesnt really bother me to much unless im on the phone when i take off... and of course a real light night of drinking a lot and the next morning, it doesnt feel good with your headache and hangover, but i love mine, even though i havent went to the track yet, go with the big 4400, youll wish you had after you get the 4000 in...
Have any of you looked at your tranny temp while driving? My vig usually sees 185* in stop and go traffic. I might add a deep pan with the YPT.
Ragtop, did you lower your lockup speed? Isn't the stock setting 38mph? I would bet that raising the part throttle shifts and lowering the lockup would help out quite a bit for around town.

I have 3.73s so my lock speed is different than stock. It is also a little higher because of the cam. Stock lock-up is pretty low, make sure you don't bog if you lower it.
The biggest gain in drivability is raising the 2-3 shift. I hold 2nd gear longer and when i upshift to 3rd go pretty much into lock-up. I use 3rd around town so it stays locked-up and and it keeps the rpms up so the car is pretty responsive at light throttle.

My PT4000 is great in my daily driver. I also upgraded from the Vig3200. I still get close to 20mpg, which is what I got with the Vig. I don't think it's much looser than my 3200 stall. My part throttle shifts are raised so that helps a lot. I expected a sharp drop in mpg, but my commute may have something to do with it. I drive mostly high way on a 60 mile round trip.
raising your part throttle shift points allows you take advantage of your gearing. a 4000 stall is going to slip past 2000 rpm under light throttle so you might as well let the rear catch up and take advantage of the fact that the car accelerates easier in lower gears.

Same here with mine and it makes the car alot more easier to drive in town. Only time i dread driving the car is on a cold engine because the tranny temps takes alittle longer to heat up for the converter to lock up. I alos don't rev the motor to 3K to let it lock up sooner because IMO it makes no sense to rev the motor high for it to lock up 5-10 sec. sooner and it also makes for a very loud exhaust pitch in my situation (open exhaust).


Yank PT4400 w/3.42 gears, if i can handle it i think you can too
