Ok bought an '07 4L60e(38,xxx miles) paired up w/'03 5.3 put a TransGo HD2 kit in it without installing the plugs that require tear down. Had a local shop build a 300-400 over stock converter. Didn't test the trans before swap, it looked perfect inside very little contamination in bottom of pan. I got the car ('79 malibu) running sat night and no forward in any gear and no reverse. I revved to about 5k once and the car barely moved forward. I'm pretty sure but not positve that I did everything right on the valve body mods and assembly. Common mechanical sense tells me the pump or converter are the most likely suspects, but I'm looking for 2nd opinions before I tear into it.

 

Sounds like the converter isn't engaged. And if that was the case, the damage has likely already been done.

 

you may want to check and make sure you got the manual valve linkage hooked in. it will N itself out if the mnaual valve is not hooked up. other than that you may have broke the pump with the converter. pull a cooler line see if its pumping also make sure you got the right converter.

 

It shifts in and out of park and did move a little. I don't think it's pumping fuild for some reason. I was pissed off and didn't think to check trans pressure on HpTuners. I mated the engine and trans on shop floor and the convertor was completely engauged in pump, I'm sure of that.

 

you need to pull the pan and make sure that the linkage that goes from the manual valve to the rooster comb is connected

 

Thanks for the replies. I'm afraid the most likely problem is the pump. I have a spare 4l60e to rob the pump off of. But I also have a good 4l80e which is more suited to my plans which include a Master Power t76, Tial 38mm wg and Bov that I already have. While it's only 350ish hp now 550-600 at the wheels is in it's future.

 

if it moves a little then i doubt the pump is broken.

 

I know this sounds retarded, but did you remeber to install the filter?

 

Partially my trans newbie fault. Boost valve (I think that's what it's called goes in the back of the pump from inside the pan just in front of the shift shaft) was too long, the snap ring that holds it in wouldn't seat. When I dropped the pan the valve dropped out too. So I compared the stock valve with the TransGo valve and it was about an 1/8" longer than stock an was bottoming on a step in the bore. So I round off enough for the snap ring to seat and now it works. Thanks to all that looked and replied. So if you are installing a HD2 kit in an '07 4l60E you might need to modify this part.

P.S. the part that pisses me off is that after working on the car ost of last sat. to get in running then it wouldn't go, I loaded the car on a trailer and took it to the trany shop that built the convertor for this trans. 3 months ago I had them build me a 903 chrysler trans to go behind a 3800 SC in my rock buggy. Well Monday rolls around and they don't get to the car, Tues morning "tech" calls me to tell me He scanned the car and it showed no trans codes and the only thing he could do is rebuild it for $1500.00! I asked him if it had any line pressure and he replied "I didn't put a gauge on it" your scanner doesn't tell you line pressure? Him "no". Mine does (Hptuners). Him "i didn't put a gauge on it". Me "did you pull the pan"? Him "NO".

Well I'm pretty sure I'll never do bussiness there again! I took the car to a tranmission shop to have a "Transmission Specialist" diagonise it and repair the 38,000 miles 4year old trans. Not for some retard to plug a Harbor Freight POS scan in it and tell me "Hey man your trans doesn't work". Hell I would have been happy to pay them $300 to spend an hour putting the valve back in. The shop was 50 miles from my house and I killed most of today picking it up.

 

Yes thats another common mistake when doing a shift kit install that little lip will fool you into thinking its the snap ring groove.
