Default installing converter it wont *Lock* in

not exactly sure how to explain it. but pulled the trans from a buddies ls1 bird and stood the trans up on the tail and went to lock the convereter in 3600 FLT converter and it wont drop down twice like it is supposed to. the splines look the same as the stock converter. and i retried the stock converter and it drops in perfectly fine. so what does everyone think? converter bad??? thats what im leaning on since the stocker went right back on and nothing looks obviously damaged on the trans input shaft but the splines inside the converter doesnt look damaged either
