Default What is the Small Line on the 4L60E?

I have a 4L60E I'm swapping into my 6 speed T/A. Everything is done now except there is a smaller 3rd line (smaller than the 2 cooling lines) going back toward the engine. It was cut off by whoever pulled the trans so I can't tell how far it is supposed to lead. What is that little line and where does it go?

I figured it was either a vent or some kind of overflow. It just seemed a bit long and soft just to be a vent to me. Does it actually plug in anywhere or is it cool just being open under the car like that?

Usually are routed up top by the bellhousing & have a clip around the hose that pushes into a bracket.. There should also be a plastic vent valve in the end of the hose.

This is a soft rubber hose that's over 3 ft. long, hooks up into the tranny (on top I think), and is open on the other end. Is the vent tube the same thing as the overflow line because I think that's what this is. If so, all I have to do is route it away from the exhaust and hot engine parts, leave it open on the end, and its all good?

Here is the line and the end of it:

So do I still need to get the little plastic piece for the end to keep water out?
