Got my car back from the tuners lastweek
D1sc 236/238 601 605 113
4k stall
Moser 12bolt. 373
Car made 525/442 Car tops at 110 in 3rd , i gota performabuilt 4k an its slippin an got blowby. I want 3rd to top at 150, some people say do 323/342 Gears other people are saying its the converter. What do you guys think it could be? I lost 15mph with blower.

Is it the converter or gears?

i may be wrong, but i've never heard of converters changing your MPH. change your gears and you'd be fine.

I think your tuner is an idiot. Blowby is engine related and not trans related. 110 does not sound right to me. Did he mean it was driving through the converter? Im sure some have done it but 4K seems a little loose for a blower setup. JMO

The advice in this thread =

Big converters slip, even at high rpms. Typically, the bigger the stall speed rating, the more inefficient on the top end. It "may" be spec'd a little incorrectly which could be adding to the problem. Or, there could be something wrong with it, or your trans clutches, which could be slipping also.

Well, I'm glad I'm an idiot since I tuned the car.

The converter is inneficient with the power level it is at. Meaning it's losing mph at the topend because the converter is flashing.

What I said was -blowing through the converter.

I wish the OP would just listen to me instead of making himself look bad. We build alot of high hp cars,so it might be smart to take some advise from us -OP.

Don, thank you for clarifying the issue. Any tuner saying blowby and slipping in the converter I would have refered to as an idiot as it made absolutely no since, no personal attack on you as Ive seen your results and good work, so apologies if offended as it couldve been any tuner not just you.

OP - now that we know what the real issue is here, you probably want to get a tighter converter and should cure your issues.

Listen to one person instead of a group of people that own mustangs and the other 1/2 keep going through motors.

No offense taken. Just wish the OP would listen to my suggestions instead of his local lack of knowledge.

first off mike do ur math...........26" tire with a 3.73 gear and a 9-10% slippage on the high end which that converter is probably exhibiting as a 4000 stall with alot of power behind it will give you 112mph at 6000rpm........

8-11% slippage for a 9.5" Lockup Converter like yours mike is completely normal also.....

lets go through it 6000rpm at the crank with a 10% reduction to the output shaft of the trans in 3rd gear gives you a max rpm of 5400..........

5400 rpm / 3.73 rear gear = 1447.72 revolutions per minute of the tire

now a 26" tire has a roll out of 6.80 feet

soooo 6.8 feet * 1447.72 = 9849 Feet/Minute

9849/5280 = 1.865 Miles/Minute

1.86 miles/min x 60 min = 111.9 Miles per hour.............well hot damn look at that 112mph!!!

by no means am i arguing the point that the converter is not efficent or is not a lower quality converter.......im just demonstrating the fact through math that the converter is operating the way it should be for what it is.......

Looks good but it was 112mph at 6600rpm. The converter is made for a purpose but not the power level he is at. The lockup in it could not even hold 380rwhp without slipping.

My car ran 120mph with a Yank 4000 stall at 6300rpm(roughly), same tires/gear.

Either way,too late now. Now I'm wondering if the motor was overspun and ate up some main bearings.
