"Work", yeah. Make the most of the cam, no sir. Are you
really that committed to this stall speed, which is only
700RPM over stock? Seems like a waste of effort / $ to
me. Even a stock motor would be happy with 3000 or
more, and a 224 cam DD at least 3500.

I have been reading up on converters too and its seems like a lot of guys on here going right to a 3600 rpm stall speed converter. I was originally thinking about a 3000 rpm stall, but might consider 3600. I was wondering how hard is a 3600 to live with due to slippage under the stall speed in regular driving. Is a cooler mandatory for a 3000 or 3600 stall, and where do you put it. My cam selection is similar to the OP, and I'm running a 3.23 rear.

That is to tight for that cam. You might be able to make it drivable with that low of a stall, but performance wise you will have a huge dead spot down low. I would suggest a minimum of 3000, 3600 if you want to make the cam happy. Shoot me an "Ask Chris" and we can go over the car specs and I can help you pick out a converter.

SS3600 or SS4k all day. 3.73 gear will help it seem more docile around town. Though I don't DD my SS4k I could. This is why you want one:

Waist of time to me to put that converter in. Get atleast a 3k for a 224r type cam. You will also need a tranny cooler

Hey Chris, how bout the slippage issue in regular driving with a 3000 or 3600 stall? How high does the engine rev before you start moving? Maybe this is an issue with some of the less efficient converters? Thanks for the replys on the trans cooler issue z99ls1, and Cold06.

Tough to say exactly, lots of variables. But you should be able to keep it under 2500RPM with regular driving.
