Default 6l80 in F body?

Does anyone make a piggyback or any other type of system to run a 6l80 in a F body without doing a late model computer swap? I already know they don't fit in the tunnel so don't need any extra info on that

Thumbs up

You HAVE to do a computer swap. Only the latest 58X computers can communicate with the 6L80/90. Not impossible, just complex.

I just find it impossible to believe that there isn't SOME trick to making that trans work in anything. And of course what are you supposed to do for a shifter? I want this bad enough to make it happen however I gotta do it but it just seems ridiculous to have to do a computer swap out of another car

Most folks with intentions of making over 500whp are swapping back to 4l80's in 5th gens, because of constant failures with the 6l80e. Imo the 4l60e is just as good when built right. If you want more gears do a t56 swap.

Your A4 shifter is perfectly fine for a 6L80/90 as it still uses a conventional shift linkage set up. If you wish to use tap/up/down then you could change out the shift **** as this is a purely electronic feature.

4l60/80 built properly with the right tune will get you much farther than a 6l. just my .02

I had 2 6 speed cars and the clutch and hydraulics were a money hole. Not to mention the syncros were junk do to the sticking clutch problems. I just want to always have a gear ready for these **** heads that want to do role races and brag about catching me at a bad speed where my car has no power. I'm sure the 6l80 can be built just the same as the 4l60 and I'm not even shooting for over 500 hp anyways. All I'll ever do is a small turbo setup but I really want the 6 gears to be able to have a dig gear and keep decent gas mileage as it is my daily driver as well

Exclamation

They key is to find a local show that is not intimidated by and has experience tuning one. There are numerous parameters of the transmission that must be addressed each time a significant change in tire size or torque curve is made. The computers are very sensitive to torque, RPM, throttle position and speed changes. So if your tuner thinks the only thing to making a transmission go fast is "what's your stall speed?" and upping line pressures, find someone else.

We have Abel Racing here which is the best around the Oklahoma area as far I can tell. I'm sure they can handle it
