I know you've all heard of him, mr. Outlaw transmissions...

He rebuilt my tranny in 08. Other than it was slipping at first because he caused a leaking problem and had low fluid in the tranny, it appeared like he did a good job rebuilding my transmission.

Recently I took the car to the track two weeks ago and i lost 3rd and 4th. what can I say, it happened after the warranty and these things happen. Not his fault.

But that's not what pisses me off. In fact, I've never in 5 years said anything bad about anyone on ls1tech and did my share to contribute to the betterment of this community.

Therefore, I warn others to proceed with caution when dealing with Maddog Lou. You'll find parts that he promises to upgrade not actually being installed such as:

.500 boost valve
Raybestos 9 clutches
10 vane pump rotor

There was more that didn't get the upgrade or even replacement, but that's all i can remember as a non mechanic from what the mechanic showed me.

Maybe since the car had 160k on it, he didn't think I'd ever make it to another rebuild but he was wrong. Honestly, I wouldn't have known the difference if he never promised to put that stuff in, but that's what i paid for, and that isn't what I got.

Buyer beware with this guy.

And no, hes not a sponsor and probably will never be with his Google search reputation.

look him up, he appears to be a standup guy doesn't he? SAD.

I'm not one to chime in and say negative things about other builders. I am not a negative guy in the least, what we do as transmission builders is not easy... but trying to take one to a high level is not cheap.

So, you have to ask yourself when making the decision to go with an inexpensive performance transmission. And that is, just why is his stuff so much cheaper? Seriously. I cannot tell you guys how often I am asked to go through someone elses transmissions only to find it is not what was advertised! And it was a cheap build to begin with!

Whatever happened to the days of giving someone more than they bargained for anyhow?

You have to realize that every year people are more likely to post their experiences with companies and there wasn't much out about him online in '08, especially considering that he keeps changing his name. I didn't post this so djfury can call me an idiot, I did it to create a larger awareness of maddog's business practices to minimize his chances of ripping you guys off. But then again, I must be an idiot with a doctoral degree.
As for Ace transmission, your right, and I'm not aware of the price of items that go into a transmission till now, and I feel the difference in how my tranny runs now. Interesting stuff.

ahh, ok. 2 weeks is barely getting it off the lot. so you've watched some poor soul get fooled by that guys "stand-up" appearance with that "10% off for you service boys and anything i can do for you" BS he uses to win hearts.

Then I can understand your frustration.

Any suggestions on what to do next? Better business bureau report?

Obviously he wouldn't be doing it if he didn't think he could get away with it. I want that incentive to be gone...

The BBB isn't going to do you any good. This guy has had many lawsuits filed against him. Best bet is to send it to a reliable trans builder and get it done the right way.

haha, yeah, I've seen it. From researching that search box, I see that he created it once and used it to "clear up his name" about some ex partner new business guy thing, then never posted again.

Does that guy actually build transmissions? I must have seen at least a half dozen things that he is totally blowing smoke up your ***. I guess it looks good to the average guy as far as adverting. To the trained individual.......well I'll leave it at that!

I prefer to tear down any performance units in front of my customers to show them the parts they have first hand. It usually gets ugly.

He calls the input drum the forward drum.

He states the Z pak has 15 clutches when it has 14.

He fails to mention when you have sun shell failure you will lose 4th as well.

Dual cage sprag he calls it dual gauge.

He states a 10 vane pump has more volume than a 7 vane, which is incorrect, every additional vane you install reduces the volume.

He shows a "360" boost valve as stock, I've never seen a 700 with a 3xx boost valve. Maybe the really early ones. Nobody would use one anyway. A .500 boost valve is $4. Big deal.

Reverse boost valve doesn't have anything to do with manual upshift capability.

And let me add that after watching the vid that indeed a 5 pin planet will not, cannot and was not designed to increase torque output! It was designed to be able to withstand more torque input from the powerplant! Wow!

He stated that there are guys who are claiming the 5 pin will make the car faster, I have never once seen that claim nor have I heard that claim.

I think my IQ went down a number or two after watchig that video.

Wow I must have been the luckiest guy. I bought a 700r4 from them about 4 years ago behind a 383 sbc stroker that made 440 hp and no issues what so ever. Even put a 150 shot nitrous on the truck and no issues. Should have bought a lottery ticket at the same time. Haha
